Is stealing still a crime?
For that past month I seen many people just grab stuff at Walmart and leave the store. Security and people are unfazed. Its as if I am with a bunch of NPCs.

Is it weird that I heard if that story? Imagine firing at nothing because an acorn fell and you thought it was a gunshot.

Now imagine constantly being exposed to the worst humanity has to offer and not being on edge while you're trying to do your job.

If you can't deal with being constantly on the edge you shouldn't be in a position where you actions can potentially kill a human bieng which isn't being a threat to you just because you are scared

It is what it is. Your anecdotal case isn't a representation of all police anyway. I'm not a fan of cops, but completely dehumanizing them all as trigger-happy goons is dishonest at best.

One could argue that if someone without paying takes food or other items needed to survive the outdoor elements then it is not theft; especially if one cannot afford to pay the price that those items are sold for.

Society needs to let those who can't afford the high price of goods take what they need to survive.

With this message I would invite you to listen to the lyrics of the song:

It really tastes like freedom.

Sounds like The Witcher 3.
That's only 50% accurate. People at Walmart would be turning candles/the lights on and off every time they tried to take something.

I worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years. It’s not that bad.
usually stores won't try to reprimand you right away.

what they will do, however, is stockpile CCTV footage of you stealing, note what it is you stole, what it's value is, and then they'll go to the cops once it reaches the "really illegal" point.

My condolences. I only hope you've got your drinking under control.
It’s not worth trying to catch a shoplifter. Even if you did manage to convict them they will just be trespassed at best; at worst nothing will happen.

I saw a shop lifter yesterday but noone seemed to care.

Economic pressures and inflations happened so there are more theft related crimes growing (where I live anyway).

usually if I see a shoplifter while shopping as a customer myself I grab them.

my decade of working as an assist manager in retail in my teens and ealy twenties, still has me left with that "grab 'em" mindset today.. just as I tend to assist other customers if I see them looking around for an item or grasping for an item that is to high on the shelf for them..

and usually I am good at noticing them.. for I was quite the shoplifter as a child/young teen, thousands of euro of value, never got caught, eventually guild caused me to fess up myself.. but lets say I know the tricks from both side so I usually good in detecting them in others too.

I was the kind of shoplifer who did it as a challenge basicly looking what I could get away with..
well let me say.. way to much.. but yeah back than being detected would still mean getting arrested. these days many workers in a supermarket not care to arrest shoplifters "thats not in my task package..."

which ofcourse is ludicrous.. back in my days ALL staff members in the shop were supposed to look around and do tasks where needed.. I fired those who like a robot only did what was asked.

I used to be friends with such a person as a teenager and was unaware of it until one day we were in one of our friend's home.

We had all stopped at a 7-11 after school getting snacks and energy drinks. This person only bought some nachos with melted cheddar and jalapeño slices and a can red bull while my other friend and me bought a lot more snacks.

While we were playing rally car racing he suddenly had a king sized snicker bar that we knew he had not bought. He had 4 more that we at the time did not know about yet.

He seemed to be very excited about how good it tasted and asked us "Do you know why this snickers bar tastes so much better?"

We did not know the answer why it tasted better than other snickers bars.

With this super wickedly evil smirk on his face he replied in this sinful delightful tone "Because I stole it":steammocking: then he chuckled in a very sadistic tone. :steammocking:

We could tell that he seemed very pleased with himself like eating it was pure ecstasy to him.

As the late afternoon turned into evening he would every now and then pull out another king sized snickers bar and have the exact same attitude about eating it.

At one point my other friend asked if he could have ½ of one and the dude asked him if he was totally brain dead :steamfacepalm: :steammocking: and if we could not tell that the snickers bars were his dinner. Then he laughed at him in this ridiculing tone and then sarcastically :steammocking: asked "Why did you not steal some too?"

Makes me wonder how long they would do it for but the problem is that got away with it.

Here in Australia, I've alerted the shop staff but they don't pursue nor care too much. I can understand why as one in four confrontations result in customer aggression (according to Australia's Retail Association). However now most shops have floating cameras which are everywhere and many get convicted that way (despite that it won't stop thieves completely).

Personally I don't pity thieves as they aren't stealing because they are "hungry" or in "need" but many steal higher end products to resell on the black market. It's common that teenagers and kids steal candy but it definitely isn't a "need" such as out of starvation.
Superman was arrested, because he is the man of steal.
