Calling people mentally ill is crossing a personal boundary I think. It's not like it even affects you one way or the other if some random person decides to transition or not. There are all kinds of things people do that could be considered mental illness, posting on this forum is one of them. It's just a scapegoat and the craziest people wast their time with it. When you sacrifice liberty for your fellow man you sacrifice it for yourself. Setting a precedent for government to interfere with your body is huge risk. We should be going more toward bodily autonomy instead of telling people what to do.
