I couldn't participate* but it's fun to watch.

*since I've been in a lot of life or death situations involving swords, and adding a consensus rp element frightens me and makes me feel like a monster, and threatens me with the social contract first and foremost. particularly given the competitive, contentious, and often somewhat predatory nature of the activity itself.

focusing on the silly aspects causes me to look down on it, which successfully distances me from those emotions. and I don't wanna participate if I'm looking down on people.

It is mostly just teens or college age adults having fun, and I don't see a problem with it anymore than I would have a problem of people cosplaying for a Comic Con convention. It is only weird if they do it for no reason, but if they don't cause problems, each to their own.

I've never done it before but It's something I've always wanted to try at least once

Never done it in real life. If you want to try it there is entire chapter in Life is Strange: True Colors game as LARP event.
Honestly in real world it looks cringe as hell but if it makes people happy then go for it.

i really like the idea of it, but it is too much for me to get into seeing as there is only 24 hours in a day and there are other things that demand my attention.

also, some of the things i would like to do in that context becomes really difficult outside of computer games.
things like gear/weapon stats etc is hard to track when there is no background equations running to take care of things, and some physical props quickly become really expensive.
i realize there is more to the concept than that, but when those things are taken out of the picture the things that are left appeal to me to a lesser degree.
also, the logistics involved in making it all work in a tidy manner faze me somewhat.

so as i said, my attention ends up focusing elsewhere when all things are considered.
