What do we know so far?

This is a very fast-moving situation, with details still emerging.

Here's a quick look at what we know so far:

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is in a life-threatening condition after being shot at around 2.30pm local time (1.30pm UK time) following a political event in Handlova, where he was meeting with supporters;

Mr Fico was shot "several" times, according to the country's defence minister;

The 59-year-old was initially taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a higher-level facility in Banska Bystrica, some 63 miles away;

Slovak television channel TA3 reported that a suspect - believed to be a 71-year-old former security guard - had been detained;

The Slovak government says initial information points to a political motivation;

Forensics officers in white suits and face masks are at the scene of the attack;

Outgoing Slovak President Zuzana Caputova has called the shooting an "attack on democracy";

Slovakia's major opposition parties, Progressive Slovakia and Freedom and Solidarity, have cancelled an anti-government protest.

Government people are blaming the hate towards Fico online for this attack - people have opinions mr we want to halt freedom of speech man. Especially when they are being railroaded towards Putin

Not just anti Russian propaganda fueling extremism, but alarmism pretty much everywhere fueling extremism. We've seen political shootings in the US before, recently, we've seen politicians attacked, we've seen people attack others just for not wearing masks, we see climate propaganda pushing young people to act like terrorists too. It's everywhere.

I do not pay attention to propaganda in any form beyond what it is.

Your comment to me specifically shows me that there is little point in discussing anything with you further.

To everybody else I have a very open mind on what is going on with the assassination attempt.

With the limited information being put out I can only speculate and will avoid doing so on a forum.

Its pretty clear your entire narrative is propaganda based on selective western history and a good dose of "good guy" syndrome.

Remember, the "good guys" won every war.

When your moral stance is called into question it is ignored, what are these western values that drive you to "monitor" Putin.

Its certainly not fair concern over foreign influence, or freedom of the press.

have you heard of french algiers, where a criminal syndicate attempted a coup on the france-friendly government (following a series of failed attempts at elections of dubious merit) and the national government tried to portray it as a french government attempt to coup d'etate?

there was so much disagreement in the french government about which narrative to back, and their intelligence apparatus became involved in so many places at once without knowing of eachother's intentions or loyalties, that the french-backed coup narrative stuck. whether they meant to or not, they had accidentally manfactured enough evidence to support either interpretation that their involvement was now undeniable after the fact. despite the isolated nature of the incident. has been a sticking point in french colonial relations ever since.

some say this was all the grand plan of an even more sinister entity, such as england, or the us, or russia, who were all active there same as they were everywhere else, or some other dark shadowy force like the EDF.

some think it was just the inevitable result of a certain configuration of economic forces.

Given the status quo across many countries, example cost of living, in a way yes since they work for lobbyist & corporations 1st, for themselves 2nd, and feign listening to the average voter during election season. Such is life ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, you're responding to someone who doesn't understand the definition of prevalence. I can guarantee you they'll either cite something that is statistically extremely rare, or try to paint groups that were founded in opposition of leftwing terror groups that already existed, and still even pale in comparison to them in numbers. Remember, those people still think the guy whose Facebook page was full of Rachel Maddow going to a baseball game and shooting a bunch of Republican senators was a completely random and unrelated circumstance.
