That being said: There's rarely good money in it.
Like all art, if you enjoy creating it: Definitely do it.
Money should be an afterthought.
There is a different on making music as a hobby and quitting your day job and making music for a living.
Some people on a Federal level tried to turn me into a heavy metal rockstar. A well known entertainer successfully steered me towards film and TV, and I hated it. I wanted to go into science, but this individual had other plans.
I love music like a lot of other people, but I have no desire to compose nor perform it. But I don't think it's a waste of time. Nor is writing for old school scifi games, like I wanted to do years and years ago.
i'm super tempted to name drop, but will beg off, and say that a lot of people wanted to make me more of a musician and performing artist, but I didn't want to go into music. But I don't think it's a waste of time. If that's your thing, then go for it.
Ever since I was a little kid I knew deep down I wanted to learn the guitar and I was obsessed. Other kids wanted video games and I wanted a guitar. I loved music because it called to me. Not everyone else will have had this experience.
It would be nice if you would help me make dinner instead of laying on the couch playing that stupid flute.
Huh? What's that? The Last of Us 2 ending? What do you mean? What about it? Oh no...
Learning and practicing music is a great hobby, however, and one that everyone should try if they have any inclination whatsoever to do so. Few of us will be able to make a career out of it though, sadly.
this.
what do you like singing, fellow bard?
ps: no worries if it's too personal
