I thought we were supposed to give everyone a chance to be rehabilitated. That's what I keep hearing when the death penalty comes up as a topic. I've always maintained that there are people out there that simply don't deserve second chances.
In general, it seems like the courts in the USA are too clogged and it's insane to think it can take years after a crime before it gets brought up in court.
Lawyers, and many other legal jobs are paid way too much in my opinion. But that goes for most jobs in the USA so it's not something unique to this topic.
I might be insane to think so but even a murderer shouldn't get a life sentence. Or rather, they should get the treatment they and be evaluated if they need to be kept secure from others, i.e., be in prison for life. But having an automatic life sentence feels so wrong to me, a lot because there seems to be so many false imprisonments and even more re-trials for each criminal.
But I also don't live in the USA so I can't really say much about reality over there.
And just to set a number, I'd say 10 years for murder is a lot. But I also live in a world where people who does murder someone regrets it so much they want to do everything to try and make the world a better place after seeing their mistake.
