Why do some people announce they're blocking someone?
You can block people if you want! But it seems weird to announce it, doesn't it?

They need the validation of others in order to feel valid within themselves.

they did not watch the stupid bull test in the never ending story and the oracles.

Or just continue with the "discussion"? Or still react to any post given they opened multiple threads? Or react to something if one meets again randomly like 3 months later?

Exactly.

What's the point of typing up a lengthy response if the other party isn't interested and will never read it anyway?

except they will lol

The proper etiquette is to simply reply with "PLONK"... old-school 🙃
I get the impression that most people do it to feed their ego. Several times I've seen people enter threads and their first (sometimes only) response there will be to declare that they blocked someone.

Why not just block them quietly and walk away? What's the sense in taking a jab at someone and then immediately cowering back to a safe space?

It reminds me of that expression about throwing stones from glass houses..
Power trip.
they think it'll piss off the person they're blocking, though mostly just makes them seem like they're hungry for attention

Jeez, people sure are judgmental and quick to assume, even without context. As some have already said, there are some very valid reasons for mentioning it.

Like this one for example. That does not even make any sense at all. If I want attention, then I am obviously not going to block you. I would try to keep provoking you into responding to get my supply. Like you often see people do, after you said you blocked them or made known that you intended to terminate the conversation.
