Where do you read a judgement from me here exactly ? All I do is asking : Look or health, what do you prioritize ? Feel free to respond whatever you want. I'm interested about people's priorities here, without the usual BS. Reason why I take a popular practice, that also happen to be unhealthy to an extent, so it will not be a theorical easy to answer question, but a real choice to make.
That's the reasonning behind it, see what peoples will prioritize in front of a real choice, not a théorical one, to see the real reactions.
So far, peoples seem to prioritize the look over the health and there some strong emotional responses too. My analysis is, some peoples may not accept that a practice they like may be associated with something "unhealthy". At least, I don't see those responses as rational ones.
Feel free to continue debating about it and so on, I find this thread very interesting and the results aren't the ones I expected at the start btw.
I guess I've been a bit surrounded by these things for so long it doesn't strike me as odd when people choose insecurities or veneer over health or substance. Plus, it's not as though our culture in and of itself isn't toxic. Everything about it; how we farm, how we manufacture, the products we use, the food we eat. There is always going to be some level of that present and I guess in nature itself, it's not unheard of to find toxins there.
I suppose if the question was one of those "would you rather" have health or beauty for the rest of your life, my choice would be health. But that's coming from someone who's gone through health issues and who finds beauty from within.
Oh simple, because I'm biaised. That's why I like those results as those helped me to spot it. I focus a lot on my health, for reasons, you know, sick relatives who end badly, that kind of stuff you don't want for yourself or other relatives. So you learn stuff to give good advices and change your own habits.
I'm also very insensible to popular things, as I see those things as temporary and unstable. Popular things become obsolete quickly. So, in my mind, I was sure most peoples will choose the long term rational thing : Would you increase the risks to devellop a cancer, for a temporary satisfaction that may become unpopular in the future ? My response : Not worth it.
So yep, I was genuinely surprised by these responses, especially because almost nobody choosed the health one.
Nah, I don't care about tattoos, but thanks. ^^
Anyway, to answer the question of the thread: I don't want tattoos, never have, and probably never will. I was also already aware that putting heavy metals into your skin is bad for your health. But that said, if someone wants to get tattoos, it's their right. Especially seeing as for some, it actually is a cultural thing, like for the person I just quoted.
By all means, get a tattoo, have a drink, smoke a cigar, it's no worse for you than going through life paranoid, nervous, and high strung that something is going to sneak up and get you.
That depends on the context. If looks were the only thing important to me I would be on steroids. I'm not. However, I feel any "risk" from my tattoos was well worth it to cover up a bunch of nasty looking scar tissue.
"neurodegenerative diseases" impossible
Most employers won't hire you if they see you covered in them, so I wouldn't bother with them.
If you got tattoos for something that means I follow this code or religion etc etc for life then its understandable.
Many are not that.
I would prefer the culture of paying money for some good artwork that could fade over time and be either topped up or get another thing.
As really as uncool as it is, in the Big Bang Theory when Raj and Howard bought tattoo sleeves to wear I thought that was a great idea it means you get to change them whenever you want rather than look like a pillock who drew on themselves with a big marker.
I got tattoo that means something because the person who did it died and it is as gnarly as you can imagine but its still there faded and in remembrance (whenever I care to remember that is).
Generally I see people with them and think need attention much?
What really cool counter culture thing you got slapped on yourself?
Oh a Celtic thing and what do you do that is ancient Celtic or what is it you strongly believe in from them?
Oh nothing what a surprise, carry on plastic people, be 'edgy' .
My tattooist refuses to do anything tribal, names, etc...... Just does proper art work.
This is very true.
The thing I've noticed though is that many of the younger generation nowadays are so serious. I honestly don't get it? Let your hair down, party, you only live once.
