They are just dancing around wearing its skin.

Was it? The movies certainly were better.
The first 3 certainly changed the genre, if you watch the other space movies during that time they were extremely corny. Star Wars set the new benchmark but even then supposedly it wasn't pervasive, from the documentaries the mania did fade away until it was forcefully revived by a chain of incompetent people, which includes George Lucas.
It all taught us something tho, always ALWAYS keep merchandising rights.
Acolyte has a light saber whip in it. Light saber shurikens when?
I think the old ones have charm. newer onces (not the modern) were decent, but nothing special.. but the modern ones is counter productive and contradicts stuff to much.
Personally most of my love for the IP came via the EU.. but that is completely destroyed.
I have the rare privilege of having seen the original cuts of the film. (Literally anything you've bought/seen since the original release has been edited/enhanced.) The spaceships have really wack cinematography. Everything else? Amazing.
There were plenty of great movies in the late 70's and early 80's. Saying it was "boring af" shows a lack of class, knowledge, and appreciation for that which came before.
'Star Wars' came at the tail end of a Sci-Fi trend. And was a blockbuster. And spawned a fanbase that lasted DECADES.
Even my OG cut is better than anything Disney has put out. Luke gasping as he fires the proton torpedoes and the music is all like DUN DUN DUNT DA DA DUNT DUNT DUNT? And then it explodes. Brilliant. Then followed by "The Force will be with you... always."
Great storytelling survives the test of time.
I felt the same way.
Its a shame, because there was so much potential buying this IP for Disney... but they have yet to make a surplus from the cost of the IP.... imagine all the things they have released and still its not enough to break even..
While Mandalorian, Andor, even Ahsoka (never been a fan of the animated series, but some seem to like the live capture with her as the star) could be considered decent (none of them are great in my opinion) a series like this, might end up having people flock away.
I don´t understand why they don´t hire people (both writers, actors, etc) that love and know SW lore... its industry standard to do that.. atleast if they don´t then you make them read or see source material.. but nope... not here... you hire on a different metrix.
The only thing Disney will understand is if they lose money ^^
Yes there are fan restorations of the 70mm 4k77 etc which are worth a watch if you can get your hands on them, unmolested by the modern George Lucas.
He was only the director on the first movie, the other two directors are pretty much forgotten which was the start of the problem.
After the midochlorian nonsense it became clear he didn't understand his own films.
He may have planted the seed but it was other people that made his original films work.
The fans don't matter. Only the richest people on earth with political agendas matter. As far as Disney is concerned.
It's not even about money. Disney is 100% prepared to run the company into the ground over meaningless political views of its leadership.
I also have the original home-release of episode 1. With the really horrible Yoda.
I really wish I hadn't passed on the opportunity to own the laserdisc versions. The deleted scenes are mind-blowing. An entire scene was devoted to Luke going to buy power converters. Which establishes Biggs. (Although I totally agree with the decision to cut that from the movie. As it is incredibly boring.)
