The Acolyte (Cancelled) - A new low for Star Wars?

The new Acolyte series is out now (with two episodes) and the reception have been lukewarm so far. Currently it is sitting at 4.9 stars on IMDB

I am sure that Amazon (whom owns IMDB) will remove many reviews, but it still seems like most "fans" dislike the new approach that was tried with this new series.
The series is created by Leslye Headland, whom is well know for controversial talks about what they think SW fans are and that they want a new fanbase.

Their approach to me would be the same if you tried to sell boats in Nepal, insisting that even if there is no need or demand for it, then the Nepalese would just be discriminative or bigots, if they did not buy said boats....... seems really odd.

Personally I don´t think there is anything wrong with the series outside what looks like a lack of demand. It does seem like many reviews are genuine and that the story, characters and so forth feel pretty flat and uninteresting. I fully respect people that might like this, but I think its far away from classic SW lore.

It's no longer complicated. It's just simple repeating patterns. With people that can't sing. Rappers that can't rhyme. Songwriters devoid of substance.

Take it all the way back to classical. One dude makes a song that requires 30 people to perform... all at once. And they all have to work together. At the same time. To produce a specific sound. And they all must be masters of their instruments.

Degradation of music is not a perception based on age. It is a very real and documentable thing.

'The Acolyte' is similar. Compare to 'Rogue One'. Compare that to 'Empire Strikes Back'.

Like most cinema, it's the same downward decline. Reboots. Rehashes. Bad writing. Bad acting. Bad sets. Bad plots. And all due to bad leadership.

There are more than one in charge btw.
Anyway.. I still don´t think she is to blame overall. Albeit its odd to hire a director that is mostly known for making controversial stuff and to make people mad.

Indeed some music have been degrated, but in its nature, most pop music ie. (and plenty other) is just classic.. I can play just about any modern music number with 4 chords if I want to.

What they have found out, is that music is now also visual entertainment.. its very focused on a few specific patterns and beats (one might argue it was the same with classic to some degree)
But all modern pop music, is the exact same if you cook it down.

Metal has its root in classical music and is extremely detail oriented and focused on more advanced patterns.
Pop music ie. is supposed to be catchy and easy for people to sing along with and get a familiar feeling.

You can´t compare the two genres really..


Its hard to compare this to movies and series ofc, as there are other factors to think about.

What I did notice, is that leakers have been right about all so far and now with episode, they were right as well.. this was the best episode, maybe because basically nothing happens..
But atleast we got pronounces in SW now.

I am sad about the sith not being the evil I mean super good witch mother.

Twin going "I was never evil" was pretty predictable as well... the Evil jedi´s had turned her evil, but now she is giving herself up, because she is a sweet one.

You cannot go by imdb ratings. That site is incredibly skewed. The reaction to it is probably far below that in reality. Most of the upper ratings will have been given by the zealots who dress up like yoda and pray to obi-wan every May 4th.

RT had the same.. just about any site or person you can find rate this series low..
Not becuase its progressive, but because its canon breaking.. we could go on about the whole Ki-Adi-Mundi story as well.. but who cares.... its better to just disregard the show and eventually (hopefully) it will be removed from canon.

The vast majority of the actors don´t know what SW is and have never watched anything, not even modern SW.
One would think, it was obligatory to atleast read/watch something before commiting to a role in said universe.. but no.

The main issues are however the lore breaking stuff and dumb actions made by characters in the series. But again.. just regard it as fan fiction.

Just saw all 4 episodes, the show is decent. It's Star Wars so it's for kids, but the acting is good and the scenery is cool. I like the characters too, especially Osha/Mae, Sol, and the young padawan Jecki Lon. The fight scenes are well done, quite exciting.

I'll keep watching it. I like the plot thread about the witches and their use of the Force and i hope the show keeps exploring it. Too bad about Master Kelnacca, i was sad about that.

I would rather say, its been dead to many older fans and people that like the EU.
The new generation seems to like most of the modern SW, albeit this show even divided the new generation

So you don´t know much about SW and the EU? that is perfectly fine and it makes sense that you would like this, this series is basically targeting viewers like you (again nothing wrong with that)

But these things and all the lore breaking, is why people that have a more expanded knowledge about the universe and the EU are annoyed and don´t watch it..
Original SW is for the family (albeit with todays standards, it would most likely be +11 or +12 depending on rating sites.. that is what most of the newer is)

The EU and many of the games made in the universe have been much more mature in its content.

Star Wars is for kids. Always has been. The games are for kids too.
