American teachers earn as little as McDonald's workers
Fast food workers in California: $20 per hour
Average American teacher pay: $21 per hour

Why become a teacher and start your life with $250,000 in debt,
when you can drop out of high school and get paid just as much
for throwing greasy fries at customers.

those that can- do
those that can't- teach
those that want to masturbate to free high school yearbooks forever- become guidance counselors

Sorry. What ? What do you mean by "average pay : 21 dols" => why average, what is the minimum salary, and WHY ? What's the highest salary recorded amongst teachers ?

And it shows, considering quality of education.

I recall Hbomberguy discussing how the UK eventually got the general public to accept that Wakefield was full of BS and move on. Why can't we do the same?

Did you post an incorrect link or something?
What does your antivaxxer-bating link have to do with education quality?

That isn't true. Teacher requires a degree (afaik) and also requires a very comprehensive background check.
some teaching positions do require a degree but not all.. mcdonalds also has positions that require prior education

requiring a degree is common at many entry level positions

Teacher's assistant or known as Teacher's aide is the entry level position. You have to have a minimum of BA degree to be a teacher, MA degree for higher pay.

true words, some of these teacher are more tired than I usually am being a waiter.
so, students dont try to get on teacher's nerve.
sometimes, I think about what school has really taught me,
I usually am self pitying, and wants to play when there is free time. I cant carry responsibility, always late to pay dues.
I am not functional.

Everything. It proves that people cannot think for themselves, so they need an old man on TV to tell them to try an experimental drug that will eventually end in their death.

Education only works when people can start thinking by themselves, for themselves. The American education system has yet to prove that it actually has produced well-rounded adults.

No one wants to be a teacher, anyway. In some decades they'll be replaced by robots, like many other jobs.

It seems like the only people who want to be teachers end up being predators.

as a dutch primary school teacher you start at 19-21 euro hr and will climb over 12 years to your max income (max expierence scale)
to 28-34 euro per hour

teachers at highschools earn more..
they start at 23-26 euro an hour and climb to 36-40 euro an hour.

teachers who teach at bachalor master or phd earn the most.

that starts at 32-34 euro an hour and will rise over years to 48-56 euro an hour.

meanwhile mcD workers get paid minimumwage of 14 euro an hour.
if they work nights (padt 22h they get for those late hours 50% more or 21 euro an hour.
*that is a dead end wage they never will get more than that with experience..

so a teacher that JUST starts will indeed earn an hourly rate similair to a mcD worker.
but ovet 12 years the teachers wage will nearly double.. while the mcd worker will be stuck at that hourly rate
the taacher also can work normal hours and do nice work.. whole the mcD worker does work that nobody wants to do.. at hours everybody sane wants to be asleep

i am a teacher I love being one.

and I deeply hate that homework is handed out by a school webpage.. i order my students to buy aclassic paper agenda and write down my homework tasks in their paper agenda manually.

i do put it online to keep the schoolboard happy but always just 23 59 the day before.. meaning students may wake up and find today has a test if they wrote it down on paper they had 2 or 3 weeks to prepare.

i do have to use thar anoyong smartboard.. but I opt to leave if OFF.
instead using it as a whiteboard.
if allowed I would want an good olf chalkboard installed as schools had when I was in school.

I was also the person who for gymnasium was like 6 years in class screw that just bought the books over 1000 pages jammed they all ib my head over 2 weeks pair to be allowed to take final exams and passed.

why wast 6 years..

I always loved to learn.. sadly many schools now care more for you handing in every paper on time and pass every test without caring if that actually learns you anyrhing or that you only like a drone do the tasks needed

the smartest students are the worst in organising.
it is wht i do the mandatory paper agenda I find it helps thosebetter smarter students much more.

I can learn from books if well written no teacher needed.
add for later education a few learn by doing like for learning to code or weld.. tasks with pictures or video and than you do them ever getting more complixated... again once a curriculum like that is well writte no teacher is needed
and finally a good given lecture is fabtastic but 99% of lectures I give I have given before might as well have recorded them and make them abailable online..

but.. if a student is not as high iq as me or is wired different those same books that are cleae as day for me leaves them with questions.. basicly you need as teacher to convert that 1 size fit all to sonething that tailor fit helps those students to understand it.
robots wont be able yo give that kind of help.
it often is read a person in what works for them and what not.. it is also people skills knowing if they are uncertain or pverconfident or if they might habe personal isssues that oocupie them.. etc..
no robot can provide that.

it might be we neef more more to a system where students selfteeach with books learn by doing and recordings of lectures.. and only contact teachers when they get stuck with that.. so less of the 1 size fit all classroom of 30 rod in the machine way we have but that human line to a teacher..will always be needed. it may just become more a mentor role

still evem while we can privide all tools to selfteach it wont work.. the inet is a massice distraction people have terroble dicipline.. they need al drill instructor or else they get fat.. and they neef the chaons of school to set themself to spend actual time learning and no watch tiktoks all day.

Don’t teachers have better benefits compared to fast food workers?

in my country? nope.
the law entitlee you to 15 free to take paid days off and 8 extra paid days off since those are natiiobal holidays.

you are also insured by the mandatory colkectice healthcare system

entiled to 1 extra month pay a year in summet as holidaybonus.

and unlimited sick leave

if you get fired they legally habe to still pay you and keep you working 2 more months after giving notice.
than pay you a severace bonus of 6 months wages
amd pay you 2 year long 70% of your last year worked average monthly wage.

both that mcD worker amd teachers have also those rights

the bonus stuff like only work 32hr.. not 40.. while still be paid as if you did 40mm or get more than 15 vacation days and to get a travel expenses paid or gived personal exclusice acces to a car your buksnuiss leases for you..

those are in other branched of work like banking, IT and law..

teachers basicly only get the badic package.

what is true many fast food workers are on temp contracts.. and get fired after 2 yearrs to not have it turn in a perm contraft..
without perm contract your rigts are a lot less nice..
very often fast food worker are minors.
we gave minimumwages for children and thosr are much lowet often just 1/3d pf adult workers.. so many in fadtfood only get enployment as a teen.. and get fired when they get 18

in fastfood for you 1000 others 0 job security
in education very high job security as they always need more teachers than there are..
if I would treathen to go.. my boss would be.. what does it take to keep you hear?

why are you comparing the nationwide average of something with something in a very specific state where wages are high and the cost of living is accordingly also high? that $20 buys a lot more in Midland, MI, than it does in Oakland, CA.

as an aside, in the Bay Area in California I think the average hourly wage for an elementary school teacher is like $40. It still sucks. That's I think $65K annually, usually with ♥♥♥♥ hours, ♥♥♥♥ conditions, ♥♥♥♥ benefits, etc, in a place where that salary means you can afford to rent a shoebox and eat granola
