Heaven and hell are forced concepts that have been used to manipulate people over hundreds of years. If you were told through life that when you die you see black skies and flying cobra's then that is what you would see when you die since the brain can survive 30 seconds to 3 minutes. When I died I saw hellfire its only because that would be the best place ever to go.
The heaven and hell things have gained so much belief and detail in its telling its now an imprint on the mental state of humanity much like the ancestry traits like fear of 8 legged things, things that scuttle, heights etc.. This is hell you just dont realise it.

Why pray to the guy who created hell?

You're dealing with someone who thinks eternal torture is preferable to eternal oblivion. He'd rather drag you back from the void after death to see you suffer. Oblivion is our true state.
