So much for 'facts and stats'.
I'm not advocating for banning alcohol though. However it is a problem and many people have a serious drinking addiction, and it is the cause of tens of thousands of deaths just in the US every year. It impairs you in several ways where a cigarette does not. Of course second-hand smoke is an issue, hence why the majority of businesses banned smoking indoors, I'm fairly certain vapes are included in this, I could be wrong though.
As well as alcohol has been linked to some health benefits when consumed in moderation. Cigarettes have absolutely zero health benefits not matter how little they are consumed.
Care to cite the studies that say alcohol has "some health benefits," I'm curious to read them, because I've never heard this from anyone.
Here[nutritionsource.hsph.harvard.edu] is Harvard health discussing the possible benefits based on earlier studies.
Here[www.mayoclinic.org] is MayoClinic stated there was theorized health benefits but state after further analysis, it isn't true.
Each article is about a year apart.
So that tells me that vaping is a hundred times worse then cigarettes.
Well it's seems pretty conclusive based on those two articles that if you don't already drink there's no reason for you to begin drinking. The potential benefits aren't worth the risks associated with it. Yeah alright, if you already drink, in moderation, you might see some benefit. But a lot of people don't drink in moderation, and that's the problem. That's the cause of a lot of deaths. If you read the Harvard article they talk about it, a few quotes from it:
"In 2014, about 61 million Americans were classified as binge alcohol users (5 or more drinks on the same occasion at least once a month) and 16 million as heavy alcohol users (5 or more drinks on the same occasion on 5 or more days in one month)."
"Alcohol plays a role in one in three cases of violent crime."
"In 2015, more than 10,000 people died in automobile accidents in which alcohol was involved."
Alcohol is definitely the worst of the two.
personally, i generally speaking think it's fine, and that it stands on a case by case study. if you see some 15 year old doing it, i can see concern, but if it's an adult then i reckon it would be an issue to have an issue with it. the provided study by the rcp shows that long-term exposure to vapes isn't likely to exceed 5% of the damage from cigarettes, and that while are there concerns of youth using it, at the time of publication, most users are smokers trying to quit and reduce their intake.
lastly, if not for the study above, is it really much of an issue in public spots? i can understand private spaces such as apartments and general living residences, but all in all, i'm sure you can deal with a stroll past one smoker every now and then, you aren't gonna die from it, and quite frankly, you sound like a member of the HOA, coming from a non-smoker
