40k, I play Orks, my rival plays Tau, how should I fight him.
(We play 9th)I need help from both Ork and Tau players. We play about 2000 point games and I have 1 deffdread, 3 deffcoptas, 40 boyz, 1 warboss in power armor, 3 killa kans, 1 trukk, 1 burna bomba, 1 deffkilla wartrike, 1 runtherd, 10 grots, 5 nobz, 5 storm boyz, 3 squighog boys, 1 nob on smasha squig, 1 big mek with power pulsion gun, 5 meganobz, and 1 big mek in mega armor(force feild). Ork players tell me how to play orks. Tau player tell me you weaknesses(besides melee). I have only played 3 games and the last 2 we teamed up to fight a big space marine army(ultramarines) I need to now how to get up close and fast. I have convinced him to add more terrain and to give us closer deploment zones sinse it is a big board. I play all klans and will be using the stormboyz, deffcoptas, and burna bombers orbit abiltiy at deplometn. Sorry for the long message i just need to win for once. (He has the combat patrol 9th, stormsurge, kroot, coldstar comander(flying), broadsight battlesuit, hammerhead, Riptide(I Think), and a few others)

Switch to 10th where smashing works well. Push him around and off objectives hence get more victory points and win. Get tough hard to kill ork nobs with armour. If he isn't using kroot properly as a front line Tau are less effective I think. There is specified rules your deployment zones are suppossed to be 24" apart I believe, it's kind of important, for Orks.
My favorite strategy against Tau is rush selling your Ork army and building a Necron one.

Board size is important it's the same as the mission says, your deployment zones are supposed to be a specific size as well, meaning Tau would have less room to move backwards on the board.

You said you have deth copters, so those are a possibility, assuming they don't have good anti-air.

https://home-2002.code-cop.org/40k/orks.html

The Orks also have warbikes. Get some warbikes. They also have warbuggys, wartrikes, and wartrucks. Anything with wheels should move fast and close the distance. Use stuff with wheels.

The Tau have a mech called the XV-88 broadsides, which could mount a crap ton of missile pods and is a good anti-air unit. They also have the sky ray gunship, which will rip your deth copters apart like they are paper mache.

What I would do is get lots of wheeled units and go all-in on wheeled units against the Tau. These will close the distance fast and let you get in close to do heavy damage.

Specifically the Orks have a warbike Ork with a big axe, and they have the wartrak scorcher, which is a wartrak with close range flamethrowers. I think these would work the best.

Fair warning: I haven't played Warhammer 40k but I do love the game and the lore. I just don't have the budget to collect miniatures.

It would seem an optimal unit would be the strongest Warboss you can get attached (in 10th) to a unit of ork nobs in mega armour, unless I'm missing something here.

It would also seem like you should have started playing 10th, unless your opponent has a reason to continue 9th perhaps it's in their advantage.

The Tau are weak in Melee, correct? Get up close and personal.
