There are several regional accents in America, Both in the US and Canada. I guess you can say right now the most typical Accent in America is what Hollywood currently uses which is typical in the Western part of the U.S.
Common American accents include ones from Boston, New York, New Jersey, and the southern style from Texas, etc.

That's only if we are talking about the USA and not the rest of the Americas.

Aye, and NUKULAR instead of nuclear, all those sorts of things that denotes a return to phonetic social barbarism insteat of upholding cultural development. Peuh.

On an almost more serious note, the average american eats and gulp a good third of the words he should pronounce, but the souther you go the more bits of words are disapearing, until in the southern regions of the states it's excpected to have 2/3rds of a word remain unpronounced.

On a serious note, every region of every country has accents. Take china, mandarin and cantonese are quite different, and there are a bunch of other local semi-dialects.

Personaly, when i've heard that the french high speak of the nobility of old was closer to the current quebac's canadian accent then the current average french ... i just lost my marbles and began laughting hysterically. Whu ? "Mon char" "mon chum" and others were ... nobility accents ? Bwhahahahaha we were soooo lame ! :p
(big hugs to the canadians in da place !)
