Singleplayer shooter games (not mods) with muskets?
I tried googling this but I only found multiplayer games like Holdfast and War of Rights. I'd like a good singleplayer shooter game, either first-person or third-person, that lets you use muskets or other muzzleloading firearms as your primary weapons.

Most Assassin's Creed games after the first one involve historical firearms of some sort.

Civil War rifles and carbines with their minie balls were closer to modern rifles than muskets, despite still being muzzle loaded.

Ninja Gaiden (sigma) 2 had https://ninjagaiden.fandom.com/wiki/Howling_Cannon

Though it's closer to a blunderbuss than a musket. Though the in-game description calls it a matchlock rifle, despite the very short barrel. Edit. I'm wrong, the description says it's a meter long. It just looks like a short barrel due to being disproportionately thicc.

Good call, imho Black Flag being the only Assassins Creed game I have played is an exceptionally good experience.
Lots of collectables, variety of playing styles.

Taking another ship you can craft your skill into something nothing short of art if you got the ambition for it.

Taking forts or fighting in the streets just because you felt like it.

I would say Assassins Creed Black flag over my suggestion of Fire and sword. (played on ps3).

There was a Half Life two "mod", or series of maps that was set in the Revolutionary War, and you used muzzle loading weapons. It was on File Planet until they were bought out ... I can't remember the name of it though. And to be honest I'm not sure it was ever completed, but the author posted a few screens of it.

Ah that one slipped my mind, I used to play it years ago and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the reminder :)

True enough, but it was still a similar pace of firing to a musket, at least compared to the spray and pray approach you're encouraged to use in most shooter games, like Call of Duty with automatic, mag fed guns. I'm tired of all that.

Sorry maybe I wasn't clear enough but I'm not limiting my query just to muskets, so don't worry about suggesting games that have other forms of muzzle-loaders ;)
As far as the gun in the article you linked, it looks to me like a tanzutsu style matchlock pistol, which were carried by certain members of the samurai class, albeit rarely compared to all the ashigaru with their full-length matchlocks. Interesting, I've never seen a tanzutsu in a video-game before. I've never heard of that game but I might give it a look on youtube to see what it's like.

I really tried to give Black Flag a chance, because normally it'd be a setting that I'd be all over, but unfrotunately I found that all the goofy parkour, conspiracy theories, and other "assassins creed" parts got in the way of my enjoyment of the "Black Flag" part. If there was a game exactly like Black Flag but without the "Assassins Creed" bits, I'd be all over it. Sid Meier's pirates is the only one I've found that's close, but well, for the purposes of this thread, there's no shooting involved (excluding spamming space bar to fire your broadsides).

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm a bit wary of mods (paranoia over viruses and such) so I try to stick to official games if I can.

I have not played any multiplayer Mount and Blade but I think they all have that capability.

Warband , Viking Conquest and Fire and Sword are the Mount and blade games I have played and enjoyed as single player.

Warband = more middle ages / medieval setting.
Viking Conquest more Dark Ages .
Fire and Sword is the age of the swashbuckling cannon fodder if you are foolish enough.

Napoleon Wars is more multiplayer I have been asked to join multiplayer regiments on it they seem to take winning seriously in that game but have never played it multiplayer - the solo game is more a custom battle and not a campaign or free roaming unlike the other Mount and blad games I mentioned.

It's a shame neither this nor Holdfast has a singelplayer element akin to MB Fire And Sword. I think it would be tons of fun.
