Multiplayer games, what future should they deserve?
I will be honest on this subject. I always have been a single player gamer about 40 years, and I have seen the evolution of multiplayer games and I don't like the future path in what is becoming. Has a single player games lover and multiplayer games hater, multiplayer games are taking over the tipical offline single player games year by year (with the rise of live-service games) and that's one of the reasons I think it's time for multiplayer games should end, before it's too late.

The chances of mulitplayer ending are 0. Compared to the population with single player games. It would be more likely for single to die first before mulitplayer. Also for the future of gamer it's been nothing but woke uncreative effort so which is why I have given up on new games in general

Are you kidding lol most players struggle to play games if they don't have multiplayer, the simple fact that people lke conection its also way more intresting playing with other people even just to talk to them.

40 years of single player is enough.

im so sick and tired of memorizing how an AI responds and repeating the same meta game for the entire lenth of the game.

multiplayer is different every time. its nice to have competition that you dont set the skill level for.

what skill level do people pick when they play single? do you set it so its easy and you can tour the game stress free? do you set it to medium to match your skills? or do you set it to hard to better yourself?

well i have news for you. your just setting how long the ai waits before it kills you. single player games make me feel like im special. i just want normal. :steammocking:

I can only speak to their future when it comes to me.

I stopped playing MP games a long time ago with one exception ... Unreal Tournament. That is the only multiplayer game that I derive any enjoyment out of anymore.

I don't even care all that much for coop games either.

I don't really care what happens with the rest of them. I just hope they put a stop to adding them into single player games.

I know many people will hate or dislike, what I'm saying, because there are a lot of multiplayer gamers that only play them for many years. I know that are some classics that should never end, like World of Warcraft. I really understand your passion for this games. But this games are changing from bad to worst, they are becoming more and more like the mobile games, full of ads, full of microtransactions, full of DEI, more in quantity (specially in DLCs), less in quality, more commercial and less entertaining. Thank God they are now Free to Play, because I will never buy a multiplayer game. And for those who are thinking in buying a MP game, think again, because this games specially the new ones may never last 6 months and even if they last they eventually will be shutdown, because the game companies are already thinking in using those game servers for the next game they will launch.

I also know there are different types of multiplayer gamers. I know there are gamers that only play World of Warcraft or only play Counter Strike. Some play these games only for the competition, for the experience they will get individually or in group, some with esports ambitions. Then are the more casual players, like me, that play occasionally just for fun or passing time.

I personally hate MP games, for many reasons. I played Dooms, Quakes until Unreal Tournament back in the 90s, always in LAN with friends, never online. But we got bored pretty fast and ended playing Mortal Kombat or some Street Fighter kind of game or some EA Sports game. At this time CS was already a sensation on Internet Cafes (or Cybercafes), home internet was too slow and too expensive to play online games, so Cybercafes were the best solution, with a small fee we rented an hour or two to play those games, once and awhile those Cafes organized CS tournaments but it never attracted me. Later on, at the end of the 90s, those Cybercafes start closing and LAN Parties start rising were the tournaments of CS, Street Fighter and Warcraft or Starcraft got bigger nationally here in Portugal, and still didn't attract me.

The main issue I had with multiplayer games was that I wanted to play in living worlds full of people, as an introvert. I never found it easy to make random friends and most groups of people tended to know each other in real life. Its possible to have introverted friends who you chill with. It's not easy making that happen though. I'm the reason developers create the "solo to end game" builds everyone hates LUL

Reasons I hate MP games:
-MMORPG - I love offline RPGs, good stories, long gameplay, very addictive and captivating, just me and a new world to explore until an epic ending.
The MMORPGs are mostly never-ending stories, graphics are mostly worst, the quests are long and hard to finish by myself because we don't have a group of NPC heros to help us, instead we need to gather a group of strange players without knowing if we can trust them or if they going to bail out at any point of the quest or at any moment we need them most. Another situation I hate, if I get part of a gathering of players to complete quests, and I have to exit the game at any moment, I can't save the game and continue later you have to end the quest first, which can take many hours and even if you save the game, when you return you have to gather another group and repeat the unfinished quest from the beginning. Later on, with new updates and expansions (that you have to buy), your progression may not be the same, sometimes can be better, sometimes can be worst, sometimes you can even lost all your progression for some bug reason. At the end you realize, you play less, you are always dependent from other players, you spent more time, more money without reaching your goals, than a offline RPG.

More specifically I'm talking about offline AAA single player games. Single player games, of course will not end, there will be always those little indie games like in the itch.io.

Reasons I hate MP games:
-Live-Service - For those who don't know yet, this live-service games were MP games only, but with the popularity of consoles since PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and smartphones, single player games start to make part of live-services too and later on they arrived on the PC. One thing is for sure, now live-service single player games are in fact rising. The thing is, live-service single player games are exactly like the MP games, the only difference you may not be dependent on other players, but you're still dependent on online servers and the popularity of the game. Depending on the game, this live-service SP games can be fun and not evasive like No Man's Sky, can be evasive with ads and microtransactions like Asphalt or Genshin Impact. Sometimes besides buying the game, you have to pay a monthly or annual fee, to access their servers to play the game, like The Elder Scrolls Skyrim Online or Star Citizen. The thing is live-service SP games have the same fate of MP games, a short/medium life, like what happen to The Crew, to give server space to the next game. A solution to save some of this games is launching a final patch for the online SP game become offline, instead of becoming an obsolete game like some MP games.
