[DATING] Where does *real* dating happen in 2024?

I'm a recovered addict- I was talking about this in some other threads, and I don't really know where to go or what to do seeking a proper relationship now. Online dating has only resulted in unstable relationships, me getting cheated on, and unintentional hookups.

The bar? The mall? The club? It feels strange for me to go to the bar or club without smoking or drinking- primarily because that's what the majority of people are going there to do in the first place. Approaching women at the mall as a stranger feels like a taboo thing to do now, as the internet just ingrains fear into women about the whole "stranger danger" campaigns being forced on people at large. It doesn't help that I'm 6'1", dress in all black and wear an overcoat. Though, I'm not really interested in not being me, so I don't know what the real solution is.

My friends often describe my appearance as intimidating, especially as far as first impressions go. They say as soon as they started talking to me, that whole preconception drifted, but it is one of the first things people usually say about me. I don't really smile- I smirk. If I do smile, it's rare, and I unfortunately have the male equivalent of resting-♥♥♥♥♥-face.

Any solutions that don't involve using dating apps that devolved into hookup apps?

You could go get a degree (nursing or engineering), just pick one with a heavy skew for the gender you want. Don't have to finish the degree either.

Heck go to dance school if brain stuff isn't your thing.

Otherwise find a sport that has couples and people of all age ranges participating. Pickle-ball, tennis etc. lots of them to choose from.

If sports are too active there should be some more sedentary things that are entertainment focused out there.

I'd say board games or table top stuff, could be movies/film, learn some musical instrument too, join a band etc.

Just depends on how much time, money and effort you want to put into it.

If you already decided all the excuses you have in the world are good enough to hold you back from dating, then why are you asking? If you want to go out and date then give it a try and leave the excuses at the door in your place.

you can't know how things will unfold until you go out and give it a try, and that means making a positive first impression and looking presentable.

mm, it kinda doesn't happen in 2024.

Everybody has 15,000-item deal-breaker lists and only wants to meet people who share 95% of their interests, because they've all been trained to date wrong by apps and swipe culture in general.

Oh, and even if you manage to get past that, nobody has communication skills anymore and they expect everything to be 100% perfect from the start, and if it's not they think it's a "bad match." When really, they just didn't even make an honest attempt at the relationship at all.

You can date casually if you find it fun I guess, but wining-and-dining or committing to a woman just to get some spicy time is definitely unnecessary, for sure.

you talk too much, that's one of your issues. you can find a partner in matter of seconds, in the worst cases you can ask your parents to find you a partner, ask your mother maybe. most people here won't be capable to help you due to different standards and different skin, maybe start believing in god and ask god to help you and someone a miracle can happen, maybe give it a shot either way you won't lose anything in the worst cases you just tried better then looking at wall feeling lonely forever.

Yeah, I get how frustrating online dating can be; it often leads to hookups instead of real connections. Your look might come off as intense, but once people get to know you, they’ll see the real you.

Because younger than 32 right now is still figuring out life, and older than 36 is unfortunately a contrarian mess of its own neuroticism. Just, as a broadstroke generalization, that is.

Of course this is not everyone, but I mean, if you go fishing for freshwater fish in salt water, you're probably not going to find many freshwater fish.
