something nobody normal cares about, the world doesn’t revolve around games, get a job, pick up an instrument, do something else that’s not whining about games.

Another L from Ubisoft, not surprised

This is why the last game I purchased from Ubisoft was Assassin's Creed 2.

I didn't like that sign in crap they had on the PS3. Beat the game and got the platinum trophy. Done.

For what? Who's gonna buy their ♥♥♥♥?
Well for one thing, whether you're for your against this ragebait thing it doesn't change the fact the average consumer is the lowest common denominator and doesn't care enough to pay attention to this stuff. They just consume, and people are still consuming Ubisoft's games. Apparently Valhalla still made 1 billion dollars, btw. The next game after made a lot less (only 250 million) but I don't even remember hearing people talk about that one. I guess it wasn't controversial enough.
That probably was due very few games nowdays do a big open world with a viking theme would be my guess? The other main reason would've been "whales" via MTX's as per usual, still you're right about the rage bait being "free" PR for good ol' AAAA corporate Ubisoft, akin to the adage of "all publicity is good publicity".

didn't flylo's cartoon already make him gay?

shogunate went the extra mile to portray him as gay rather than asexual, in an effort to discredit the foundations of nobunaga's rebellion.

given that nobu was into kidnapping villagers and amputating them for fun it wasn't that hard to make the associations stick, and for people to believe such rumors.

but for all intents and purposes, it's well-documented and clear that yasuke was simply a retainer; he had no idea what nobunaga was doing in private any more than anyone else did.

and what are these japanese sources?
Dude was a retainer to Nobunaga, he was apparently a slave brought by Portuguese Christian missionaries and they offered him to that legendary samurai guy and he kinda liked the guy then after some time Nobunaga died and Yasuke got sold again, nothing is quite clear if he was really a bushido with proper training no one just know this.
And all that happened in less than 2 years

In this time of strife and disagreement, the world (regardless of race, creed, and nationality) can unite in their shared disdain for Ubisoft.

Considering the era he lived in, that was true.

I must admit I was thinking the same thing momentarily, but dude, learn to exhale. XD
Are you saying I'm replying too fast? I'm just killing time before I get on to play Overwatch.

He wasn't actually a real samurai, though. People just keep saying he was, even though none of the Japanese sources describe him as such. He was a servant.
and what are these japanese sources?
They're listed on the Wikipedia page and before people start sperging about Wikipedia, you can go to the sources yourself. The dude was only in Japan for a total of 3 years. People who became samurai did so after a lifetime of training, starting in youth, so, is it logical to say some guy who was there for only 3 years instantly became a samurai at the beginning of his stay? No. He's referred to as "vassal", "retainer", "bodyguard" and so on, but not as a samurai because he wasn't. Also, when the dude was defeated, he did not commit seppuku, as an actual samurai would do. He surrendered and laid down his sword. Honestly, the dude isn't a good person to use as a historical character because he was incredibly spoiled in Japan and was dishonorable as a warrior.

Yeah i did add that part later. i stretched to 3 years because it might be possible he did stay a while longer but anyways, ain't no way my dude was a fierce samurai warrior in 3 years, that's just not enough training and i doubt he was naturally gifted.
Stranger 2024 年 5 月 23 日 下午 6:02
i mean the thing about natural gifts is that anyone can just be born with them.

and most samurai aren't gifted; a talented fighter is only going to take 3 years or less to get the hang of whupping people who've been doing it for decades and still haven't gotten any better.

he's listed as a retainer, but efforts were made by the shogunate to portray him as a servant. for the same reasons of discrediting nobunaga's faction as a whole. yasuke was rather famously honorable in a time when very, very few people were.

wikipedia doesn't mention anything about him not being a samurai. if you're going to mention that paragraph you mentioned in another thread - it literally didn't exist until very recently. you can check this on wayback machine yourself and see that it wasn't there one month ago. so no, i'm not going to take wikipedia as a source on this. that was obviously added by someone with a particular agenda or interest in this little edit war going on.

yasuke was in japan during the sengoku period when the social class system was basically falling apart and the bushi class was much easier to get into. any "retainer" (like yasuke) was in essence a samurai if they had something like a permanent stipend, which he did. really, yasuke's case wasn't anything out of the ordinary and in fact probably representative of a lot of other japanese at the time. which means this entire discourse about him not technically being a samurai or technically being a retainer or w/e is honestly pretty meaningless, and also it's not like japanese people dislike him or don't want to associate him with the samurai class. quite the opposite, he's a common character in taiga dramas afaik

I'm just waiting for the *other*, other shoe to drop: all the villains will be white men.

But wait: white men from Future America. LOL and, wearing red hats.

Somehow, I bet that will be the big "twist" in the storyline. The "I see dead people" moment.

Polygon, IGN, Gamespot, RPS, and Kotaku writers will be totally shocked, but they'll love it. They'll even love how much it surprised them, and not even realize how stupid they are for not expecting it.

More and more AAA companies are retconning existing characters to make them all ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.

Just goes to show the best games are made by indie devs these days. Buy games from indie devs who don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about SJW BS.

idk they could do the moon-faced people from JinRoh instead. moon cults are generally considered responsible for the association of paleness with higher status in japan.

racialized efforts to associate the french with moon cults were also common, as japan cracked down on moon cults in a way that made the christianity crackdown look sloppy by comparison.

so if they want to do a race play this is the correct angle to take, I think.
