This is why the last game I purchased from Ubisoft was Assassin's Creed 2.
I didn't like that sign in crap they had on the PS3. Beat the game and got the platinum trophy. Done.
shogunate went the extra mile to portray him as gay rather than asexual, in an effort to discredit the foundations of nobunaga's rebellion.
given that nobu was into kidnapping villagers and amputating them for fun it wasn't that hard to make the associations stick, and for people to believe such rumors.
but for all intents and purposes, it's well-documented and clear that yasuke was simply a retainer; he had no idea what nobunaga was doing in private any more than anyone else did.
They're listed on the Wikipedia page and before people start sperging about Wikipedia, you can go to the sources yourself. The dude was only in Japan for a total of 3 years. People who became samurai did so after a lifetime of training, starting in youth, so, is it logical to say some guy who was there for only 3 years instantly became a samurai at the beginning of his stay? No. He's referred to as "vassal", "retainer", "bodyguard" and so on, but not as a samurai because he wasn't. Also, when the dude was defeated, he did not commit seppuku, as an actual samurai would do. He surrendered and laid down his sword. Honestly, the dude isn't a good person to use as a historical character because he was incredibly spoiled in Japan and was dishonorable as a warrior.
and most samurai aren't gifted; a talented fighter is only going to take 3 years or less to get the hang of whupping people who've been doing it for decades and still haven't gotten any better.
he's listed as a retainer, but efforts were made by the shogunate to portray him as a servant. for the same reasons of discrediting nobunaga's faction as a whole. yasuke was rather famously honorable in a time when very, very few people were.
yasuke was in japan during the sengoku period when the social class system was basically falling apart and the bushi class was much easier to get into. any "retainer" (like yasuke) was in essence a samurai if they had something like a permanent stipend, which he did. really, yasuke's case wasn't anything out of the ordinary and in fact probably representative of a lot of other japanese at the time. which means this entire discourse about him not technically being a samurai or technically being a retainer or w/e is honestly pretty meaningless, and also it's not like japanese people dislike him or don't want to associate him with the samurai class. quite the opposite, he's a common character in taiga dramas afaik
But wait: white men from Future America. LOL and, wearing red hats.
Somehow, I bet that will be the big "twist" in the storyline. The "I see dead people" moment.
Polygon, IGN, Gamespot, RPS, and Kotaku writers will be totally shocked, but they'll love it. They'll even love how much it surprised them, and not even realize how stupid they are for not expecting it.
Just goes to show the best games are made by indie devs these days. Buy games from indie devs who don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about SJW BS.
idk they could do the moon-faced people from JinRoh instead. moon cults are generally considered responsible for the association of paleness with higher status in japan.
racialized efforts to associate the french with moon cults were also common, as japan cracked down on moon cults in a way that made the christianity crackdown look sloppy by comparison.
so if they want to do a race play this is the correct angle to take, I think.
