Cheating or not?
You are playing a game and it turns night in your game and it's dark you have a flashlight but it's still a little hard to see so you turn up the gamma and brightness to see. Why do some people consider that cheating?

I was on the stalker clear sky forum and one person considered that cheating.

This could go for any game not just clear sky. Even MP games with dark maps.

No, it's not cheating. Tryharding, at best
I never thought it was cheating since it's built in the game and available from the start unlike cheats where you have to manually turn on. But i do see how it can make a game a lot easier and detract from the game. But i don't see how it's cheating.
well the game wasn't designed around you cranking the brightness all the way up, the idea behind having the setting there for adjustments is so that different kinds of monitors can all adjust to the intended experience ("adjust brightness until you no longer see this symbol")

so it's not cheating, it's just deviating from the dev's intentions, which ppl who are passionate about a game may get gatekeepey about

Some would call it "hardware cheating" but I think that's simply stupid tbh.

No cheating imo, due having to adjust brightness for the bad lighting + it being a single player game.

I guess this can also apply to MP games that have dark maps.

No, that’s not cheating.

yeah more or less, but hardware gamma issues are so common that it's not really that important.

personally I have excellent night vision, so when the dev slaps me with someone that's literally blind during a full moon I think what's happening is unfair unnatural.

darkness RARELY has positive effects on game imo, it's just annoying to rp a nyctalopia patient in a game you are supposed to have fun

Because in Clear Sky the nights are very dark, and you're not supposed to see much, if anything at all.

but when devs give me a flashlight and make the rest of the level clearly visible without it, I'm like "wtf why did you give me this?"

I love being lost and scared in the dark in stalker games though, i'm not scared anymore now though cause i know the entire trilogy like the back of my hand.

then when the devs design the entire game around needing to see in the dark, and they make the default setting clearly visible at night, and then someone runs in with a monitor that displays that gamma level as wholly opaque,

then what?
