Question, why are skins coveted to the point where they can go for hundreds of dollars?

it could theoretically be used as a money laundering scam by releasing mediocre games with card markets, injecting money in through skin market manipulation, and then using that to trade cards and take the dev cut...

but that's kind of absurd.

A hundred dollars is a lot of money for a lot of people everywhere. Even in wealthier countries most people would not spend a hundred dollars on virtual pixels in a video game.

If you are annoyed that some people spend money on silly things, you are going to be annoyed at a lot of things in life.

Yes. Thats why I would never buy them. Some people do, and thats their choice and theres nothing wrong with that; just like theres nothing wrong with never buying them too.
