Which is so hot.
A game like Harvest Moon is the closest thing to what I'd like. I just hate farming. You name your character and are him. He has no back story and anything else that would differentiate him from you.
It's interactive by the choices you make. Give this gift to this person and keep them in town or ignore this person and let them leave. However, I want the choices I make to affect the story, like being good or evil. To put it simply as I can, go left or right. The path you choose determines the ending.
Also in Harvest Moon, you have a choice of a a few females to pursue and eventually marry. You go through the courting process until they like you enough, then you propose, have a kid, and continue the game by farming and keeping them happy. That's the dating sim part. I just hate that the characters are so shallow and have little back story.
Now for a virtual novel (Sakura Spirit) I'd need it to be in 2nd person. "You walk into the classroom and see your classmates socializing before class." Choices are a must as well. For example, like in most RPG's, a list of responses during dialogue. Examples of that are in Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, and Fall Out. And from those choice of responses the story would be affected.
I hope I was more clear this time around.
In response to the Catherine suggestion, I don't like the concept of cheating on girlfriends. I would hate the main character the entire time.
"Are you interested in me"
"Yes"
"Lets get married!"
