How long did it take to learn kanji? And do you learn Japanese grammer + the symbols at the same time?

I'm pretty sure that's correct, yes. As I said, I'm still learning myself.

I haven't learned Kanji (what I wrote there came from a Hiragana to Kanji dictionary where I look up words I already know in the Hiragana writing system and see how to write them in Kanji) yet, but it takes quite some time. It has ~3,000 commonly used characters in it. Don't let that turn you away though, it certainly is possible; Japan has a 99% literacy rate.

If you don't know both of them already, learn Hiragana and Katakana before trying to learn Kanji.

Anyway, yes, you learn grammar while learning to read/write. At least, that's how I did/am currently doing it. I find that writing sentences and paragraphs using new words and characters helps me remember them. Usually I write at least 5 sentences with each one.
