It is strictly forbidden to worship anyone other than God. Catholicism takes the Bible and stamps all over it with their unique cultural teachings.

Do not call anyone on earth your father; for one is your father, He who is in heaven. Matthew 23:9

You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them. Exodus 20:4-5

Note I'm agnostic and don't particularly follow any religion but have studied them for 30 years, from Sikhism to Shintoism. Basically Catholics are like that one guy who introduces his head canon into a story and holds it as truth.
