The Greek Stoics had it down
Epictetus: "Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems."

Seneca: "We are more often frightened than hurt; and we suffer more from imagination than from reality."

Chrysippus:"It is impossible to begin to learn that which one thinks one already knows."

Diogenes: "We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less."

Bonus---
Marcus Aurelius: "Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one."

"The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts."

I wanna hang out with these guys. They seem like an enlightened bunch who probably just like to chill on the curb and get drunk.

Peak human understanding right there.

And if you translate all that: people presume to know and spend more time causing trouble than making the effort to sit, ask and listen. a completely foreign concept on these forums.

Perhaps a couple to loosen up and become more sociable.

Getting drunk is for those Epicurean slobs. =P

That`s not the correct scientific deduction. You have two ears to pinpoint the direction of the sound.

"Why are you out here having fun and being irresponsibly inebriated when there is work to do and more important things to think about?" :)

It's great reading.
why aren't there more Stoics today? is it possible that Stoicism is nothing but a bunch of pithy retorts with no substance?

the sheer lunacy of Aurelius: "Happiness depends on the "quality" of thoughts." The guy was a ROMAN EMPEROR...talk about a "let them eat cake" moment.

Wow do I like a bunch of those quotes!

Sometimes life really is that simple. One just gets in there and surges forwards. Think of it like sports. There is a clock, the play has been called. At a certain point there is nothing more to think about. At a certain point you just gotta surge forwards and do your thing!
the greeks had it going on qut well.
