Who really cares about "wokeness" in games?
I've only seen coomers complain about it. And most people don't play video games for the same reason as they do. It feels like there is only a loud online minority complaining about it.

I've played BG3, it's not woke, nor is Skyrim. I've played WD2, enjoyed it, didn't notice any wokeness. How was it "woke"?
Baldur's Gate 3 is so woke that I will not purchase it. I do not care for my character being hit-on by other men throughout the game or a wizard who wants to trick me into having gay sex with him. None of that would end well in R/L so I prefer not to experience it my relaxing pastime either. It is much easier to not subject myself to that type of behavior.
Some people see woke where others don't.

I don't have a problem with anyone, but I don't like it when someone tries to impose someone else's will on me. That's why I pay attention to that, among other things.

I don´t care about anything in games (or art) unless I want to experience it (no matter its form)
If that is the case and we ie. talk about videogames, then I want (depending on genre etc)

Great gameplay
Belieable story, characters and interactions that fit the theme.
Player agency (if possible, depends on genre)
No quotas

I think its a pretty normal expectation to have.

obvious sjw / woke people (minority group) and the higher ups who think all people function like a small college group of nobodies

There is an old saying ...

Once you let the devil in your house you can never remove him.

I don't want someone else doing that to my games.

Sidenote: we keep seeing these topics when most of us know there is a simple solution to this problem. Have woke people make games for woke people and leave the rest of the games alone so others can enjoy games the way they want to.

Win-Win. Understand? Sadly you won't because internet. Anonymous + hiding behind keyboard makes for commentary you wouldn't normally say in real life company.

Once upon a time, we had video games. Frogger, Dig-dug, Donkey Kong, and Pac-Man, etc. These were games made by people with actual lives, relationships, etc.

Then, as the industry developed, more young men who spent all of their time on computers got involved. The silicon valley bro-culture started bringing us women with giant boobs, and such. Young women weren't interested in this kind of gaming, generally speaking.

As time went on, the industry branched-out into their respective echo-chambers. More people were drawn in.

With the advent of online multiplayer games, we suddenly had a convenient and efficient way to reach the minds of young people all over the world. This attracted the white-supremacists, political agitators, and all the rest.

Today, we are seeing a bit of a reaction to that toxicity, and it isn't at all surprising. The hatred and intolerance are hurting their bottom-line. By tolerating the intolerant, they automatically exclude all of the people those losers hate. Gaming companies want to get everyone's money, so they have to do something.

The reason this forum is so full of crap is that these young people were raised on toxicity, racist memes, and conspiracy theories. They feel threatened by any and all attempts to address the problems... same issues they have with governments, churches, schools, their own families.

They reject education, reading, science itself and they come here to the safe-space Gabe Newell built for them.

That's how I see it.

Yup, It's more like the establishment once again regaining power over liberals. It's liberals that reject everything that is normal. This war started back in the 60's with free love that went against the establishment.

I know, I am old but I been there and know the society isn't going the way everybody hoped.

establishment has strong beliefs that isn't compatible with liberals as you listed above. Family values, raising families, morality such as man and woman. The liberals reject all that.

This is why we are seeing that war still ongoing in real life and in gaming forums.

Bingo, That the best answer to the question.

That I played, an example of a triple A "woke", Watch Dogs 2, of an indie, Disco Elysium.

Disco Elysium is "woke"? I found it to be a revolting example of right-wing talking points (that was surprisingly well written for that sort of thing).

Your comment makes me wonder if I may have been too quick in my judgements? I wonder what it is that I missed? How could that game be described as "woke"?
You were too quick. Disco Elysium was written by socialists.

https://youtu.be/d1gKGq44NxQ?feature=shared

Slight correction, the subtitles say Helen Hindpere when it she says Ilya Repin. Helen Hindpere is the woman speaking, one of the writers, whose bio states, "socialist".

It isn't a 100% political game, but when it gets political, it's most often from a leftist lens.

While the game makes a mockery of every ideology, including socialism, through the protagonist, the writing is, as is to be expected from socialist writers, pretty in line with progressive ideas. -The theme of racism is explored through your sidekick, a national of foreign descent, and racist nationalist characters. -All of its nationalistic characters are caricatures of nationalists. -The smart "ultra-liberal" (in-game term for right-wing liberal) drops some lines critical of capitalism, portraying her as a self-aware as opposed to commited to her ideology. -Most of the leftist characters, maybe except for one or two of them, are portrayed as fairly reasonable and/or well-meaning individuals.

EDIT: I've seen many praise the game and its writing, even from center and right. But all of the hate I saw, and I mean hate and not criticism, came from right-wing perspectives.

There are plenty of non woke devs out there. If you think new AAA games are all woke, look for and support indie devs. And you have a great platform for that type stuff, right here. Valve enforces very few rules when it comes to publishing and selling games at their store--anything non-criminal goes, so it seems.

Don't the reviews/scores for these games speak for themselves? 🤔
There are "woke" games with very positive reviews and not-so "woke" with very positive reviews, and the contrary is true for each type of game. What does that tell you?
Look deeper. Woke games with positive reviews usually have those positive reviews because most reviews that are negative get removed from the site they existed on, leaving only mostly positive reviews.

Steam only ignores review bombing.
