yeah but there is a difference between.. well it takes more efford to do it the old way.. lets use the electronic devices.. the same way buying a new sock is now so conveniant and cheap.. who is going to plug a hole in a sock they already own even if they know how..
but as a person with an interest in extreme survivling and a person who things world before internet was better... that "know how" is exactly what I deem important and I think many of the new generation has lost..
I mean even the boyscouts in my youth still used maps and compass and had a jamboree by the air (radio transmitters)... it was SPECIAL to speak to somebody from australia... on long wave band... and you would often be dropped with nothing but a map and a compass good luck getting home.. we also had to draw our own maps.. like measure a given km2 area and create our own handdraw , coloured in.. with a legenda below what each colour ment and such..
now when dropped they just use google map.. and the internet has killed that yearly radio event that was so much fun...
however I do think it IS important for teens to be raised WITHOUT devices and learn these old methods... it's fine to use devices as convenient alternative... but it is a VERY BAD idea to solely rely on them without backup.
well some compagny's are rather.. inefficient I grand you that.
as a teen I was hired as a temp at the refional post center.
basicly what had happened was. they had a sorting computer.. it red adresses and it deposited them in bags for the postman to deliver..
howver there were many handdrawn adresses that computer could not decypher... or that the sorting machine did drop in the wrong postmans bag and thus would return with them.
-
all those were piled up in a corner... tens of thousands of letters..
they had not the manpower to do manual sorting as they did before the machine...
but goverment started to complain bout to many post pieces not delivered.. so thats why we were hired as paid by the hour, minimumwage, no sickleave, and fired when they no longer want you temps.. to fix that mess..
well now.. the chef wanted us to take a box with a few 100 letters... take out a letter.. look what mailmains area it belonged... and put it in the bag that was ready for him the next day.
most other staff were considereble less intelligent than me.. and just did this.. in 2 years they never solved the pile I informed and it only grew larger.. even with periodicly hiring temps..
this is when I just ignore doing when told... to me this was IDIOTIC..
luckely the chef was lazy that 1 day I worked there.. and went away and would not return till the next day.
I called all other workers.. and tgrabbed a pack of cards...
I gave 11 workers each an shuffled deck of cards..
I told them : to sort the deck of cards lookt for the heart 2, in all the deck than the heart 3 etc..
I gave 11 other workers together 10 shuffled decks of cards.. but I ordered them
you nr 1 you do nothing else but make a red pile and a black pile..
nr 2 : you do nothing but make a pile heart and a pile diamonds
nr 3 : put only your 13 heart cards in order
nr 4 : put only your 13 diamond cards in order
nr 5 : you do nothing but make a pille spades and a pile club
nr 6 : put only your 13 spade cards in order
nr 7 : put only your 14 club cards in order
nr 8 : you be giving new decks to 1, and take away his piles and place them to the side
nr 9 : you be take a red pile and give it to 2 and take his 2 decks and give them to 3 and 4
(take their decks away and place to side)
nr 10 : you be taking a black pile and give it to 5 and take his 2 decks and give to 6 and 7
(take their decks away and place to side)
nr 11 : you be taking the decks on the side, in order heart - club - diamond - spades, and put them in their box.
2d team said we will loose I just say.. do as I say..
2 minutes later.. 2d team won.. I made my point.
(idiots you must do stuff like this with to make a point clear)
ok well now how is how we are going to do things :
we have here 5 long tables to do work on... we are going to use them!
step 1 :
first you going to sort the letters on JUST the 1st number of the zipcode
you all get 10 empty boxes.., toss your cards in them 0-9
when sorting use the steps I tought you.
step 1 do even and uneven in piles in front of you..
step 2 toss all the evens in the right number box
step 3 toss all the unevens in the right number box
1 hour later.. great we got all the cards sorted on the first number... now we are going to sort them on the 2d number... using this same process.
now each table is going to do the same.. only we now have 10 smaller piles...
so table 1 is going to work of pile 1, table 2 off pile 2 and so on..
well it took some instruction but before the day was over ALL the backlog post was fully sorted.
chef called me aside next day.. where are all the boxed with unsorted post I got nothing for my workers to do.. and whats this about you having told them a new system.. you are just a temp how DARE you..
me : all the post is sorted and being delivered.
him : impossible..
me : not with the right method
him : and what should I do with all those PAID workers..
me : well I'm just a temp as you made clear.. as for them.. well they have fixed contracts.. they are paid to be here.. it's YOUR job to give them something to do..
to great joy those other workers were send home for the rest of the week WITH full pay.. as well contract is contract.
-> as temp I was terminated on the spot by that chef, he refused to pay me for that 1 day work.. let alone this 2d day I was called in.. and treathed to sue me for damages cause my non certificated method will mean all work will have to be done again..
.. I later recieved a call of the boss above it he had fired the chef.. I would be paid those 2 days and they now used my method..
All need to touch grass once in their life though.
they did it idiotic by placing 1 letter at a time in the right place..
I tought them that sorting first by first number or letter aand thus do the whole pile to sort at once.. goes a lot quicker.
and that was 20 yeaars ago.,. when digitalisation was not yet as much a problem.. idiots excist in any era;)
IF you can think further than.. we need internet.. lets find who has internet.. you might think of internetcafe's lets look if there is one.. dial up internet??
you never will think.. for solutions without internet..
first thing kids no longer seem to learn is "writing together" you know the script with hand where every letter flows over in the next so you never have to take your pen of the paper.
secondly they do it indeed a lot worse...
I personally always considered my handwriting ugly.. I CAN write very beautifull as it is HAMMERED in in primary school.. lefties were MADE to write right handed.. and you had to write the same letter over and over until it was FLAWLESS..
(and than my grandma deemed US lazy.. she had to do the same but with a dip pen.. where we used pens that had ink cardridges inside..) also the caligraphic art of thick and thin lines she was hammered in with.. was dropped in my time.. the size of your loops, the angle of your letters the precise placing of them between the lines.. and the distance to eachother still was hammered in though...
basicly we leared handwriting my grandmother still had like all kids learn caligraphy.
today.. those classes likely not excist anymore.. as I noticed most kids and teens write in block letters often even only in block capitals.
when I say my handwriting is ugly.. well to keep up with a practical speed to make notes in a meeting or such my spacings and loops are not as they should be.. so : ugly..
when I have infinite time I can write still as tought..
but as a teacher I can say each and ever time I have to read my pupils handwriting these days it is plain TERRIBLE.. it could be chinese.. undecipreble mess.. and when I ask them what did you wrote there.. they often can't read it themselves...
ofcourse I know the trick of "write it on purpose messy.. it a open question test.. than if the teacher says it wrong.. just say you wrote the correct answer there..
but I know that trick all to well so i always ask what did you write BEFORE I mark it good or wrong.. oh they still try "what you think it reads. teacher" but I aint buying that.
but that would be just a few words.. even when you look in their own books.. their writing could be sumerian cuneform..
Enjoy their life? No. :))
perhaps they would eventually;)
after they gone trough the worst of their withdrawal symptoms.
many youth are depressed
xennnials like me who know annalog life and digital see annalog was better but well can't force the world to go back..
if some "disaster" would however kill the internet off and force all compagnies etc back to the annolog ways.. those teens too eventually would become much happier..
