how much melatonin is too much
The max they sell is 10mg. I want to sleep but faster and i need to get 8 hours of sleep in 3 hours. What's the max load a human can take before taking enough to die

I don't think so.
if you have a heart condition that's potentially fatal, the lower end of which is around 35-50mg. 100mg normally.

1-2mg unless you are absolutely certain you need more, otherwise maybe it's not the right solution.
Your mistake is assuming all humans are the same. When it comes to lethal dosages, they have something called an L.D. 50[biologydictionary.net], which is the dosage of a substance which is sufficient to be lethal 50% of the population. Your personal tolerance may vary, and factors such as weight play a role in it. You really should be asking how little of a substance you can take while still being effective.

With that having been said, in trying to find the L.D. 50 of melatonin, all I could find was this article[www.sleepadvisor.org] suggesting it has not been established. It suggests the most you can probably take without potentially suffering side-effects is probably 10 miligrams, most doctors advise 5 miligrams at the most, with 2 milligrams being a moderate dosage and 1 being a light dosage.

If you have 10 miligram pills, try splitting them in halves or quarters and see if that works first. Also, maybe try consulting an actual doctor.

Seems to me it's pretty safe, it doesn't seem to do much at all. I've read once that if you aren't in a dark environment, it does not even take effect. It more or less just supports a natural function of your body instead of doing anything of its own.
I take 5mg, but it barely works and even when it does it takes too long so I started taking 10mg THC edibles to sleep instead. I've heard anything over 10mg of melatonin is a big no-no.
ld 50 is useless in an unmapped population. the fraction of the population which has been mapped is so small that they may as well not have bothered.

it's a marketing term.

nobody paid for marketing on melatonin because it's a scam in the first place.

but the scam extends to synthetic horomones of all kinds, such as insulin.
Why not just take a roofie?
exercise and valerian root
no force on this earth can cure your sleep problems, nor anyone else's.

the entire field of sleep medicine is a scam, and it's insulting.

A baseball bat can probably cure sleep problems.

A baseball bat can probably cure sleep problems.

probably, but not in the people who need it.
The ones in my corner of the world are 1 mg ....

Oh and, I am no melatonin expert, but as a general rule:

More doesn't mean faster, it is how you take it that matters, and the release rate depends on the type of pill. Also, more doesn't have to mean better, and more normally means higher chance of side effects

Only use occasionally, it is not meant for daily use or it will not be as effective (as you may have already found out)...
I take like 30mg a night on top of other sleeping medications.

You’ll just get used to it, or, worst case you’ll be nauseous and feel sick. You can’t really OD on melatonin unless you’re eating bottles upon bottles in one sitting.

It’s not pleasant to have too much but I wouldn’t worry about it.

Melatonin supplements will stop working once your body becomes used to the influx.

I stopped taking melatonin because I was getting dizzy spells when I woke up. The honest truth is you don't need it. Just get enough sleep. Go to bed early enough. Eliminate all distractions. Keep caffeine intake at 200mg and do it before 12pm (afternoon). Don't bring your phone into your bed. Take a shower about 1hr before bed time. Use black out curtains if you need too. Put on a white noise in the background. Etc...

The goal: 7-8hr of sleep a night.
