ok what is the lore behind some skins costing upwards of hundreds, thousands near tens of thousands of dollars? what makes a skin.. cost that much. like it blows my minds.

Usually people who are able and willing to pay that price. Like with everything expensive. Some might only buy it because it´s expensive. So it´s basically expensive, because people have nothing better to do with their money. Some prices might just stand there to explain the prices for other items, even if nobody expects to buy the really expensive ones.

It´s also nice, because that way the kids who pay CS learn at young age that money is everything, and if they can´t afford certain prices for random ♥♥♥♥ - they´re nothing in this world and end up as depression patients. Even more so when the prices for the skins are probably not regional prices, unlike the games.

Good question by OP, I've always wondered that too.

There isn't a real explanation for such things. It's like asking: Why does a Rolex cost so much?

Because someone will pay is the only explanation you'll get.

The thing is, CS has cases and after a period of time it becomes impossible to get those cases dropped by the game. This is where supply and demand begins to affect the price a lot. Each skin is unique such as how much scratched it is, is it startrack (counting every kill made with the skin) and whether it has a pattern that is super rare.

There were also some other dependencies, what kind of stickers there are and whether they were special drops from previous tournaments and can't be created something like that.

In short, don't buy expensive or at all and don't focus a lot on skins, just use these which you like and are cheap.

Nah. If it´s about that all digital content would have no value at all, as You can reproduce it 100% infinitely. These prices have nothing to do with supply - except for artificially limited supply, while they wouldn´t even limit the supply if it´s about games. They rather reduce prices to sell more copies - or offer them for free so people do their microtransactions...
