Yes. Those old enough remember that this is why Bleem! was taken out by Sony. It was a working Playstation One emulator (when the PS1 was still just called the Playstation, and was still immensely popular in stores). For a couple of months, you could buy Bleem! at the store, with all the other boxed PC programs. Sony's lawyers weren't cool with that.

Bleem! got drained dry even though Sony lost every lawsuit they threw at it. It was ruled completely legal since the code was all original.

CEMU didn't bypass decryption. If you wanted to play a game on Cemu you had to find all the arcane tools and codes necessary to decrypt the games first.

According to the decision here, and one of the reasons why the suit succeeded, was that Yuzu bypassed all that. Basically it was too easy.

If we're talking about being ez CEMU is much easier, all you need are the game files
YUZU/Ryujinx need prod keys and firmware both up to date

The main difference between the 3 is that YUZU devs were making money out of nintendo's properties and that's probably an easier case to win

Told you so. Emulation of this manner is NEVER a legal gray area for modern consoles. Just like I said, it violates the DMCA. If you have to break the copy protection on the games to use it, then it is illegal.

The only thing that might still be legal is if they made actual hardware that could play the original games, like how you can now buy 3rd party consoles that have slots to play both original NES and Super NES cartridges (you still have to buy the original games themselves).

Nintendo sucks, it is evil and need to die, but I stopped using Yuzu years ago because it was too buggy / glitchy. The other emulator works better.
It's more sad for Citra as far as I know there are no alternatives for now and it works fine.

I hope that Nintendo will go bankrupt soon, at this point they are only scammers and nothing else. There is no place for consoles anymore in this world and they have clearly no intentioon to change that, they only want to still get money from all the good they have done in the past in the most scammy ways possible. Except this lawsuit didn't prove the legality of it. The Yuzu devs folded instantly to avoid a trial.

As of right now, it still is a grey area because emulation itself is legal. Emulators(even for modern hardware) are legal if they don't supply the tools to bypass encryption. None of the modern emulators do.

Also, encryption measures weren't out in until the Wii for Nintendo and the PS1 for Sony. Yet bleem! was deemed legal while the PS1 was still being sold.
