Sweet Baby Rays is alright
It's OK for a mass-produced condiment.

I can think of a half-dozen locally-produced small-batch barbeque sauces that are tenfold better though.

I've never been a fan of sweet/sugar based BBQ sauces.

My favorite kind of BBQ sauce is Cattlemen's Classic Base mixed with some squeezed lemon juice. Makes a killer marinade too.

I'm more about the vinegar/tang side of things.

Yeah, the absolute best BBQ sauce I've ever had was from a tiny little shack in a field in the middle of South Carolina. Right on the border of tomato-based BBQs to the north and the mustard-based BBQs to the south, this place had a vinegar-based sauce.

I've not been able to find anything like it anywhere.

It is poison and should be banned

Sure, their Honey BBQ is inedible on anything other than chicken strips, but the other's aren't too bad. At least, when compared to other mass-produced condiments. Like Kraft BBQ. Which is probably actually poisonous.

Sweet Baby Ray's is fine. Freely admit I'm no bbq connoisseur. /shrug
(always seems so risky to try a new bottled sauce. If you don't like it, you're stuck with the rest of the bottle)

But the only reason I have it around in the first place is because of an Asian orange chicken sauce recipe that I use it for. (was originally one of those "three ingredient" recipes - SBR sauce + Orange marmalade + soy sauce - but I've tweaked it since the first time I tried it.)

I've yet to find a decent pre-packaged orange sauce. I'll have to give that mix a try! Thanks!

There was a restaurant that I went to in Savanna, Georgia back in the aughts. IIRC it was big ol' round building, I think it was called something like the Johnny Harris Restaurant (I'm too lazy to google it right now), they had some killer BBQ sauces. I remember buying a few jars they sold for the trip back home.

I also remember not knowing it was something you were suppose to wear nice clothes too, they put our party in the back. At least we got seated though. One of those 'no prices on the menu' places.

Here in New England a lot of the sauces are sugar based. That's not exclusive to just the BBQ sauces either.

The original recipe is something like 1 cup BBQ, 1 cup marmalade, and a couple tablespoons soy. Waaaay too sweet & orangey. I've made it more like 2/3 to 1/3, and add some chinese hot sauce, garlic & ginger. Honestly, it's a little different each time, depending on what we've got around. :D

I don't like their honey mustard, it tastes like used gloves sometimes.
