smurfs are evil creatures, the way the produce and the way they eat is very unknown. I know they eat blue berries, but they are indeed cannibal. elf's and gnomes was mentioned as demonic creatures in religious books, what stops a blue creatures who lives in closed village from being demonic creature too.
