I just... can't think of how this works.

The tumblewinds, of course.
Is this a riddle you came up with?(Sounds like you don't know the punchline)
Or was this something you saw in a game and needs to be answered but there's not enough clues or you don't have the right items to get past it?

Pretty good question tbh.
Such a giant creature, especially one active enough to fly through the air, would require IMMENSE amounts of food.

not to mention having extra legs they don't even use...

or maybe they're just normal ever-day 6-legged bison that the sky people float around to impress others?

Cabbages and hay

Entire haystacks, to be specific.

Also, don’t bother watching that live action remake. You can buy the entire original animated collection on Amazon for $15.

I’ve been watching that version for the past couple weeks, after I heard about the remake. It is an incredibly good show, even better than I remember (which was a bit hard, since the last time I’d watched ATLA was literally when it first aired in 2005-2007).

I'm not really big on anime.

edit: tho avatar is one of the few I've actually watched and I still don't recall them ever explaining what a sky bison eats...

Two things.

1. The original Avatar series isn’t really “anime” anime. It’s anime that was designed from a more western perspective, meaning that it really sets itself apart quite a bit from what you stereotypically perceive it to be.

2. The live action remake is essentially a butchered and “modernized” version of the anime. They basically took the story, tore half the pages out of it, rewrote the characters to be worse, and called an “improvement”.

ya sorry, late edit... I've actually seen the animated avatar and I don't think it ever explained what a sky bison eats.

Appa usually eats hay. At the Air temples it seemed to usually be fruit. And the aforementioned cabbages in the episode “Appa’s Lost Days”.

https://avatar.fandom.com/wiki/Flying_bison

While flying bison graze on grass and tree top leaves in nature, they are capable of consuming a wide variety of plant life, typically offered by humans, and hay if it is available. They also eat fruits and vegetables, such as apples, watermelon, cabbage, and seaweed.

When driven by desperate hunger, flying bison will try to eat other substances, such as cacti, eggs, and the buzzard wasp equivalent of hone
