Tomatoes have sugar in them.[fdc.nal.usda.gov] I mean, the only thing is we don't cook it down nearly as much. It's like, really runny jam.
You can make jam without adding extra sugar. It's just... not very good.

As a genuine response; it depends on the recipe for the tomato sauce. I used to cook ours down but we made it from scratch and the raw water content was always higher than preferable for spreading evenly on the pizza.
