In all honesty it's more pervasive than just being ignored or treated worse. It's been shown in studies to keep you from getting promotions, work recognition, monetary raises at work, leniency with the law, etc.

There's a lot to the way you look affecting your place in the world.

Looks aren't everything, obviously, but they mean more than I think most would like to admit.

That's also another reminder as to why the "beauty" industry is worth hundred billions of dollars ($532 billion dollars on it's way to 800 billion in 2025 if i'm not mistaken) and in some cases got above 50% profit margin.

societies idea of beauty has been drastically altered by popular media.
when these actors, singers, and models take of their clothes, filters.. they quickly begin to resemble us.

Well not really, the industry just exploits very self-concious people / folks that got bullied for it about unrealistic beauty standards, and people in general keep reinforcing that idea, like in the examples @Chaosolous posted links.

Kinda like how Casinos exploits the weak and folks with addictions, or how Tobacco Corporations back then did bribery to doctors to sell that cigarette were "good for your health", among many other examples of industry and corporate shenaningans.

man's personality and respect can override everything, unless you are ugly and has no life.
for a woman's it is the same but people value more the outside look in women compared to her qualities, you need to spend well times with person to actually know if you like them or not.

I don't see people as ugly or pretty.... I look for beauty. The eye sees what it wants too, and the heart feels the beats of every drum.

Do you notice that in the 90's, they put on the broadcast of war? Did you notice that they don't broadcast any proxy wars anymore? They pay people to be war "reporters" not really journalists but "reporters" working FOR an organization.
