There are many ways to get college for free here in the US. I got mine for free by joining the Army. My employer also pays for my certifications and continued education.
If you didn't do good in school and your parents don't have money... There's always the dreaded JOB, community college for two years, and not moving out of your parents house to go to some school with your friends.
And here's another truth... Many employers don't even care about college anymore. This can be good and bad. It's bad because you'll get paid low. It also drags down the pay of people who did go to college. The good is that you no longer have to take a bunch of general education ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
An actual example would be:
Equality: college admissions requires same standard for entry, regardless of race, income level of guardian(s).
Equity: college admissions will not require testing for admissions for those who are deemed to have come from a subpar school. Reason: they are not likely to do as well on the test, thus preventing them from being admitted and that wouldn't be "fair."
In a situation like the above, but in a Equality system, resources can exist for those who need to increase their proficiency in knowledge for the test to gain admittance, but the requirements to actually be admitted would remain the same, with no one getting special treatment.
Equity creates an imaginary fair field. It does more harm than good by pretending that the subject is just as qualified when they aren't. It allows for a system for some to not work or study as hard as others.
No, not successful and fulfilling...just to produce important goods and services that change the world. How many of those came out of your country again?
Not true. Maybe unskilled, menial labor jobs, but you need the education and certifications for many important jobs.
And taking the meaningless general classes serve a purpose. How do you know what interests/does not interest you unless you are exposed to it?
