Review your actual contract with your union to see if there is any wiggle room without losing any or all benefits.
Talk to your union rep so they know your needs, which is their basis for representing you so its kind of a big deal.
Find a non-union job(might even be at the same place as a contractor or some other job category).
They seemed to represent the casual and part time employees much more than the full time people in the actual union, the flexible rosters were a good thing if you didn't work full time like me. All I got was the option to take a 3 day weekend BUT I would have to work 9.5 hour days to make up for it and work 6 days in a row on one week, absolutely not doing that! I know who my union rep is but I never spoke to him, he works in another department of the store. Should I just go up and say I want to leave the union?
I'd have a talk with whoever the union rep is and explain your situation to him before just leaving.
I won't tell you what to do but a suggestion would be to open eyes on other places and unions to be a part of.
That Union needs a Hoffa to kick its ass.
