And I've had freeze-dried durian. It tastes like what you'd get if you cross-bred bananas and onions. It's not bad, but I imagine fresh tastes completely different.
but if it was a life or death situation...
it is mind over matter..
surstrommen.
while I still have nightmares of the smell.. as a Dutch I am already used to the taste of salted herring.
and there are foods that smell terrible but taste quite bland.
(the morbier cheese that litterly smells to dead bodies)
not sure if surstrommen is one of those but well it wont kill me.
haggis on the other hand is at first glance munch less offensive.. bassicly a glorified liverworst.
but it contains entrails and those are very unhealthy to eat.
so based on rational what would be the least harmfull to my body I pick surstrommen.
but it would most likely be a case of putting a gun to my or another persons head or starvation before that will ever happen.
durian tastes fine.. a bit like dutch lemon cheesecake. creamy, bit sour and a hit of lemoncurd.
thats just something that smells strong but not even THAT bad.
by far not as scary.. as the surstrommen smell believe me nothing I ever smellt smelled THAT foul...
which happened to me.. and I tossed the lot.. that smell is so foul..
As a dutch I am used to salted herring..
surstrommen smells like you took a plate of our herring out the fridge abd just have it sit outside for a year..
thats not fermented.. thats rotten!
(warning: rude language, most of it for humorous effect)
A 'pluck' is all the liver kidney heart and other giblets you get from 'plucking' it from the animal all together.
Boil it all that chopped stuff with oatmeal together and it looks like mince.
Haggis always have a 'secret ingredient' that is supposed to give each maker an 'edge'
Can't stand all that stuff so it's a no from me for both.
Both might be good for your mitochondria (gut health)? idk..
Seems like Surströmming would taste more like poop.
A lot of people probably won't be able to hold it down.
I'd start with Haggis, otherwise I think I'd rather fast for a 5 weeks.
