My Xbox just scratched my discs and I am pissed
Just a few minutes ago at the time of typing this thread, I was playing a game on my Xbox 360 and all of a sudden, my console made a weird, malfunctioning noise. I ejected the game I was playing and what I got what a disc full of stratches and laser burns which rendered it completely unplayable. In my 10+ years of gaming, this has never happened to me, ever. Every time a disc or game was damaged, that was entirely my doing and I, therefore, learned to be more responsible with the items I posess. However, this situation is different as the damage was done entirely by the hardware, not me. When this happened, I was really pissed off and still am. I know that Xbox 360's are prone to hardware failures, but the one I got was in perfect working condition, so this happening was complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Even worse, the game I was playing isn't even owned by me, I borrowed it from a friend. My friend said that if I didn't return the disc to him by the end of the week, I would have to pay him, and I'm not kidding when I say this, 400$. There have been times where I've borrowed stuff from my friend and either lost them or flat out forgot to return them, decisions I completely regret. I don't want to repeat the same mistake again, so can anyone please, please tell me how to fix a disc with a lot of stratches and laser burns? I would really appreciate it.

Replace the disc with a second hand copy

This happens frequently when you tip your Xbox to the vertical or horizontal position while it's running. There's a gyroscopic effect on the disc and it flexes, grinding itself on the laser reading head thingy.

You cannot fix a disc with scratches and burns, it's gone. I'm sorry dude. Replace the disc with a second hand copy. If it's not a "Kids" game, a majority of games on Ebay are reliable with quality and care.

For the XBOX, buy a second hand Xbox or replaced your disc drive.

Last disc game I had was Scarface: The World Is Yours 2006 from Radical Entertainment and it was a DVD rom disc

last computer that came with a drive disc was my alienware R7 from 6 years ago, which I still have and is disconnected, and I think they stopped offering them on assemble line built computers the last year or two

First xbox I bought was a white Arcade version of the 360, and a copy of Oblivion. Had it stood up, and it fell, while running. Absolutely TRASHED my disc for Oblivion luckily I exchanged it for a new one at Walmart no questions asked. Gotta love no questions asked warranties.

Usually when the xbox fell, or pressure was put onto it, other weird angles as well.

$400? What the hell... must be the rarest XB360 game ever.

if it has an actual optical burn on the disc, the data inside has been destroyed. you can't repair that.

you just replace it, and next time be cognizant putting expensive things into old devices.

edit: i'm sure you can find a copy that doesn't cost 400$. no xbox game would ever be worth that. millions were made. wherever he had it valued at lied to him. especially if it was at 'wata games'

Call your lawyer and sue your friend for extortion.

About the 400$, my friend wasn't talking about the game, it was the estimated value of everything I borrowed from him that I lost. I was very irresponsible when it came to borrowing my friends stuff and returning them to him. One time I borrowed a t-shirt, I lost it. Another time I borrowed a collection of CD's, I lost them. There was even a time when I forgot to return a PC mouse to him. The game I borrowed is around 30$ in value. Despite that, most of the stuff I lost was around middle school, but I don't think that's a good excuse. Here, I'm especially worried because I don't want to be seen as selfish. Now that I know the struggles of money and economics, I only borrow stuff I probably won't lose and I want to be a better friend than before.

Sorry to hear that your Xbox red-ringed. I swear, buying Microsoft hardware on launch day is basically a death sentence for your console.

1. I don't have a lawyer.
2. My friend has the right to be skeptical as I've been careless when it comes to borrowing his stuff.
3. The 400 bucks I owe him isn't for the game, it's for his other items that I lost.

Time to upgrade? With a 360 tbh eye would at least get an X360 model E.

Or whatever... Ah well.

Might want to actually go ahead and buy that new thing. THAT NEW THING!!
(haha lmbo :))
That might be a good idea. From what I heard, the earlier Xbox 360 models are prone to malfunction. Maybe a more modern (and possibly cheaper) model could work, but I'm currently focused on returning the game to my friend.

Future advice. ##NEVER STAND YOUR CONSOLE UP##. Always have it laying on its side. Big problem with the 360 was the circle scratches around discs. The disc drive does not seat the disc securely. Only way to fix that disc is using that old Disc Dr, which resurfaces the entire disc. This was a big conspiracy theory back in the day that Microsoft wanted kids to break their disc's so parents would rush out and buy more.
