Were the greek gods a real religion or fiction

So there's obviously a long and detailed lore about the Greek gods, and supposedly some of this information has been lost to time. Most stories were told through plays and theatre about the stories of the Greek gods.

Many information has been lost to time because it is only thought to have existed in a few theatre performances, so my question is: Were the stories revolving around the Greek gods taken and had people add on things that they themselves purposely made up as apposed to be official?

It was legit their religion. That's why there are copious amounts of shrines and temples to venerate them. The Parthenon is a temple to Athena.

Fiction for sure. Evolution is real and christianity says its not, so its clear which is the fake.
