calm means just that.. you calm somebody.. they are stressed, or hysterical, or angry, or any emotional state that is not calm.. and you calm them down.. to bring them back from this flight or flight state back to a default calm state..
while reasure.. is something different.. somebody that has lost confidence.. or trust.. you reasure.. in their cability, that this thing is doable, that you will keep your promise etc..
ofcourse a shellshocked soldier needs both calming AND reensuring to win the battle.. calming.. to get out of his panic and stop thinking of fleeing.. and reensuring.. to get him to actually resume fighting..
trust can be towards many things, both internal (your own ability) and external (is the other truthfull in what they promise.. will this bridge hold my weight etc)
when I need calming.. I am in a flight or fightmode.. and calming means you bring me back in a normal mode.
