[SOLVED] No audio with Google Chrome?!
Hello guys!

I need your help. For example, when I play something on Steam, I have normal sound ingame. But as soon as I finish the game and want to watch a video on Youtube within Google Chrome with sound, for example, there is no sound. (or any other site with audio) But as soon as I start a game again, the ingame sound is there. Also any other audio source on my PC has sound. To solve this problem with the Youtube etc. sound, I actually always have to restart the PC or log out of Windows 11 and log in again so that I have the sound on YouTube etc. again. But as soon as I play something, the sound on YouTube etc. is gone again.

Is there an explanation for this or a solution so that I don't have to restart the PC / log on to Windows 11 EVERY TIME? Is this maybe also a specific "Windows 11 vs. Chrome issue"?

P.S.:
I don't have this issue with Windows Edge or Opera - just installed them for test purposes. I'm just using Google Chrome.

It's not. Already several methods found and tried on Google but none of them are solving my issue!

The same for changing the Steam name every new minute....
In Sound Control Panel, the "Advanced" section which still looks like Windows 3.11, select your output device like "Speakers" > Properties > Advanced and you should find an option "Applications can take exclusive control of this device" or something similar. You can try to tinker with that, not sure if that will help you but that is what your explanation made me think of.

First thing I would think is that volume for Chrome is turned down in Volume Mixer but then I don't understand why it resets.

Restart your Windows.
Press Windows + Ctrl + V to check your sound output.
If there were no problems, then try re-installing your soundboard drivers.

Yeah, that was also my first "hint" I found in the internet. Turn off and on the "exclusive stuff" but it doesn't change anything. And yeah, this kind of issue is really confusing.

Why re-installing the soundboard drivers if the sound is working for all other audio sources like games, windows sounds, everything except the audio within Google Chrome?

Are you using headphones?

Do you have any other DirectX/PnP devices/peripherals on your system, like a game controller, camera, etc with I/O abilities? (in/out)

In Windows privacy settings, you can also restrict certain devices. Have you checked there to see if Chrome is restricted from using those?

PS: Ewwww... "Chrome." Anyway, not my place to judge. But, I am. ;)

And you didn't accidentily mute the tab in Chrome? Is the speaker icon there, no X on it?

If it seems to be playing, can you see the bars moving in Volume Mixer? Both main one and for Chrome?

Right click the volume icon by the clock and choose open volume mixer and see if google chrome is muted there.

Under Google Chrome, click the three dots (top-right) for the menu and select "Settings"

Under the Chrome settings, go to:

System -> Disable the continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed

Privacy and Security -> Clear the browsing data
(Under that, select advance and set the time range to "All Time", then pick what you want to remove, but make sure it's at least the "Cached Images and Files")

Privacy and Security -> Site Settings
(at the bottom, it might not list all, but show an additional content settings, select that. Under that you will find "Sound", ensure "Sites can play sound" is enabled there - or you can list what websites can or cannot)

Restart the web-browser and try again.

If it's still not working, let us know of:

It's web-browser extensions under the "My Extensions"

And what sound card brand/model number and any other audio devices you might have, including things like a VR headset and headphones, etc.

Thanks for all the comments so far. But unfortunatelly still no sound for me in Google Chrome. BUT ... one there's one weird thing that I noticed. Normally when an audio sorce is "active" it's listed as an running "app" under System/Sound/Mixer/App, right? But it isn't listed there while for example an Youtube video is running. I can just see apps there like systemsounds (Windows), Steam, Steam Client WebHelper and that's it.

And still nobody has given an explanation why an reboot of Windows 11 and/or just logging out and loggin in again is solving this issue!

Game Changer Update:

FINALLY I just found the solution by researching the task manager under Windows 11. And the solution is kinda easy. If you close Google Chrome there are STILL running several Chrome sessions which you can see in the task manager. Just close them all manually. After that, restart Chrome and the audio is working again!

(I still don't know why these aren't closed after closing Chrome!)

Still weird but happy that this method worked for me. And hopefully for all others who have this issue, as well!

Here a link to see my taskmanager with the running Google Chrome sessions. Hopefully it helps: :)
