No, it is not an issue.
Disable superfetch and prefetch then the usage should be around 1.4GB

Superfetch and prefetch are the old names, which is now bundled together as SysMain with the newer Windows OS.

It analyzes your PC usage to predict which apps you're likely to use and preloads them, allowing for quicker app launches.

So yes, it uses more RAM, but like I had mentioned in my previous post. It can free it in a heartbeat when requested/detected by other apps/games requiring more RAM usage. It's a lot smarter at it these days as well.

So you would go under Services.msc and find under that list "SysMain"

It's description even says "Maintains and improves system performance over time.", but if you really wanted to disable that. Right-click, stop, and then right-click > properties > Startup type: Change from automatic to disabled.

I personally would leave it enabled and not care at all about the RAM cache usage. You have RAM there available, why not use it? But up to you...

The function has always been strange to me, because you load components from the applications on the RAM. However, if you need to multitask, the system will have to delete these components. Do you need them or not, sometimes it's useful and other times a waste, but hey, we have SSDs these days.

With 8GB RAM is more likely to be counter productive.

No...

Windows is designed to use RAM and will keep the DLLs in memory to recall quicker. This means if you open/close the same app regularly, for example, it's already loaded in memory.

It just marks them as "free" while still using that memory. When a large amount of memory is required for an app/game, it's released instantly.

Go to your Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) > Performance (tab) > Memory. Notice the "Cached" amount. It might say in usage 8.1GB, but 6.4GB cached. That means your PC is actually only using 1.7GB, and the rest can be freed up at any time by the Operating System, when requested.

Some silly RAM Booster apps merely just release that manually, to make it appear like you got back your RAM cache, when it's done automatically by Windows anyways.

If you seriously wanted to do that, all you would need to do is right-click on your Desktop > create a New > ShortCut and type:

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

Name the shortcut "Clear Memory Cache" or whatever you like.

However, you don't even need to do that.

You are better off reducing Window's background startup apps and bloat software instead.

Go to your Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) > Startup apps

Only if you know what they are and don't need it, right-click Status > Disable

It will remain on that list so you can go back and Enable it again, if ever required. Mostly you just want the security software and required apps to run devices, such as your headphones, etc.
thank you! this is a very useful answer

What browser are you using? Browsers like Edge or Crome like to run background programs (newsflash their spying on you), but you can go into your settings and block them.
firefox/brave are my main browsers
yes windows uses a 4gb commit.

2gb of that is inaccessible unless you use an intel chip.
