Can you play bass on an electric guitar

Ok so everyone says the first 4 strings (EADG for E tuning) are essentially "compatable" with base and you can play bass music, even if it isn't 100% perfect sound conpared to bass is this actually true?

Yep. Get an extended range guitar with 8+ strings and it's even easier.

Notewise it tracks, and you can even get a pedal, such as an octave pedal, to help simulate the bass sound. But why not have a real bass?

There are some things that I want to play that are unfortunately just bass, I'm trying to play "Field of souls" from Hades but it's bass. Not enough incentive to buy a whole new guitar

Kind of, certain pedals have a bass effect so yeah.
