and only because he is trump and is a rich SOB was he able to defend himself BY LEGAL RIGHT IN A COURT OF LAW!
too bad people who aren't rich don't have the privilege of their legal rights...
It is convoluted, yes, but it's how it is for the presidential election... For good or bad.
the popular vote is a whole other can of worms that makes slightly more sense...
But again, like you said, you can always just write in, and honestly there's been no need for a third party option since Ralph Nader did his streak of campaigning, and even he didn't ever do that well...
like in america it's perfectly fine to vote for literally anyone... just no one else will?
so saying that there aren't options is highly disingenuous...
It's generally considered a "throw away" vote and seen as either an act of protest or a waste of a good vote depending on who you talk to.
you know most countries don't allow that right? like if you don't vote correctly for one of the pre-determined candidates you're vote is actually discarded?
like that's why people who are actually aware of how it works don't take americans seriously... because you do in fact have the right to vote for whoever the heck you want but choose not to then have the gull to complain that you "couldn't".
So criminal cases, but being delayed and ignored. It seem some Americans also have short term memories which completely forgot about history.
Even when Ralph Nader was campaigning for the Green Party, he never got over about 3% of the popular vote, and he probably did the best of any third party candidate in modern history...
Well, other than the people who legitimately think there are no other choices available at all, but they are just morons.
Definitely not for any significant duration. Even after he was out of office there was talk about the Janurary 6th riiots, his third impeachment trial, Musk unbanning him from twitter, how his supporters booed him off stage for endorsing the vaccine, et cetera. Maybe there was a bit more focus on Elon Musk after that for a while, but certainly not for long enough to be surprised that he is relevant again.
