Game play is a key factor before graphics. Even the story line, etc.
Graphics come in afterwards as a way to greatly increase the gamer's immersion into that virtual world. It's what makes a good game great.
I see you are playing Doom on cells!

Artstyle is also of key importance for certain types of games, too. How many people do you think would buy Animal Crossing: New Horizons if it looked like an ASCII roguelike?
Many games can get by while lacking in these areas, but not all of them do. To say that graphics don’t matter at all is a broad generalization and very dismissive of the role of visuals in a video game.
example nice graphic often made forest to be very ugly place or cave place, tunnel place, city ruin, slumb
so sometime thoses places look better in cartonish graphic than realistic graphic
Bad graphics + good gameplay don't make a good game either.
For example, I have no intention to engage with those indie games with bit graphics.
it has NOTHING to do with your pc..
you can have that 3000 gaming pc and STILL prefer gameplay over photorealism or such..
that game developers spend more programming time is making a well thought and balanced strategy game.. that plays well..
with a lot of budget going into writers.... and engine development.. to give good AI opponent as you prefer single player..
pc gaming never was about fps...
it WAS about features.. some of these features were indeed grafical.. it was why we had games like the rts game cossacs where we could control 10000 units... while consoles still had 2d street fighter crap...
thats not so much about "looks" as utilising the better features of the latest gen hardware in a way that actually improves gameplay.. compared to that.. just having "more fps" or "look those grafics" is rather lazy.. and dull.,.
a blinged up console game.. remains a turd.
and think a game like kerbal space program.. who CARES if version 2 looks better thats POINTLESS if they programmed the grafic calculations in that game so crappy that it suffers from crashes when you time accelerate... and wil slug to an total standstill when more than 1400 parts are in 1 frame even on 20000 euro computers.. being able to render millions of parts... and having a universe with hundreds of stars would matter for such a game a LOT more than "make it look nicer" and if it actually would have to decrease pixel density and realism a bit to get there that would be preferable..
