Well, when you're discussing atmosphere and one tries to claim gasses get denser at higher altitudes, you might be dealing with someone making a bad faith argument and ♥♥♥♥ posting for their own amusement, AKA trolling.

Are they pushing an agenda or actually trying to have a detailed and intellectual conversation? Former is your troll. Later is just a bored guy on the internet.

Trolls also typically roll in packs or groups, there's rarely ever just one, they need an army to assist them in their trolling.

Effectively, trolls are kind of a dime a dozen situation. lol.
They all look alike, they all sound alike, Hell they all probably even have the same acoustic resonance too. lol.

I will never understand why people troll but it's ironically self-defeating in its own.

Use the internet for long enough and it becomes second nature tbh

It takes one to know one.
Look for bad intentions.

People who deliberately try to pick fights, steer discussions off the rails, and generally add nothing of value to a conversation are often trolls. There are certainly more characteristics to look for, but those few would be a good place to start. Good luck!

Usually someone who discusses the person rather than the topic or issue in question and makes constant personal attacks in an effort to provoke others.

Also oftentimes a pretty mean person, and unforgiving.

Unable to deal with the fact that some people have different opinions, etc.
Gets really angry at disagreements and starts insulting as a result.

The list goes on and on.

If they have the most braindead takes with a heavy dose of racism, homophobia, sexism ect with an anime profile picture then congratulations you have spotted a troll
that or at least someone who's mentally ill but there's no difference really uwu
no difference both are bad

How to spot an authentic person on the internet is the real question... chances are, if you don't use some kind of social media then you better:

A: Steal data illegally. ( Track IP's, intercept data ) and this will land you in jail... but most advertisers and people trying to make money off of you uses sites like youtube already do when you visit the site, and it clearly says they will do this in order to pay for the service they provide for you. Or if you play games, games steal a lot of data.... like the ones with anti cheat, cause they want to make sure you playing a game honestly.

B: Use social media. People put their lives on it so they can disagree, agree.... tell jokes.... commutation.... connect with friends and family who they don't see much IRL.

C: Stop using the internet and visit someone in person who uses the internet.

Don't be an idiot, being a pain in the @$$ to lonely people trying to troll is a waste of a time on the net and will more likely get you trolled in real life by card sharks, cons, and pick pockets later.

Hot Takes, inability to stay on topic so they can keep arguments going, incomprehensible arguments, links that don't say what they say it says or that they didn't read completely, misrepresenting statistics.

Oh, and their profile picture.
