It sounds as if you're talking about :
Running your Series S, taking the video output from that and using the HDMI cable to route it to the Series X in order to then take a video-out connection from that Series X and run that to your TV/Monitor... to get 4k? From the GPU on your Series S? If so, then "No."
If you're just talking about using your HDMI cable currently connected to a Series S and then disconnecting it and reconnecting it to your Series X so that it can then feed output to the TV, then "Yes, as long as the HDMI cable is properly rated according to your Series X requirements."

That's the best answer you're going to get from MS Xbox.
IOW - You can use the HDMI 2.0, but need the HDMI 2.1 to get the best quality. One HDMI 2.1 cable is included in an XBox Series x. The XBox Series S's HMDI 2.0 will function on the Series X, but overall quality may suffer.
**********
As long as its and HDMI 2.0 rated cable, you're fine - Yes, you can use it if that is what the Series X says it can or should use.
Those cable ratings are Industry Standard, so any HDMI 2.0 cable can be used with any device that needs or accepts any HDMI 2,0 rated cable.

So, it seems the 2.1 has much higher bandwidth capacity. Soo... That's an issue you may have to look at and I may be wrong as I do not know atm what is required for the 4k you want.
The Series X comes with an HDMI 2.1 cable, so you don't have to buy one. If you need one longer than the one it comes with, you "might" have to buy an HDMI 2.1 to get the resolution you want.
Did you come across something that said using the HDMI 2.0 would give you 4k, but at lower refresh rate when compared to an HDMI 2.1? Link?
You should be able to use your existing HDMI 2.0 cable on the Series X. Your results for 4k may vary in quality, though. The Series X comes with an HDMI 2.1 cable. HDMI 2.1 cables are not expensive if you can't find the original that came with the Series X.
Be sure to follow the instructions for setting up 4k with the series X, provided in the link in my previous post.
Good luck!
