Using HDMI 2.0 on a Xbox One S to a Xbox Series X
Hi, just have a question regarding the Xbox Series X about using the HDMI cable I have plugged into my Xbox One S which is a high speed HDMI 2.0. If I were to do that would I be able to get 4k 60hz or 1080p 60 hz available? I don't care about 4k 120hz it just seems redundant.

It sounds as if you're talking about :

Running your Series S, taking the video output from that and using the HDMI cable to route it to the Series X in order to then take a video-out connection from that Series X and run that to your TV/Monitor... to get 4k? From the GPU on your Series S? If so, then "No."

If you're just talking about using your HDMI cable currently connected to a Series S and then disconnecting it and reconnecting it to your Series X so that it can then feed output to the TV, then "Yes, as long as the HDMI cable is properly rated according to your Series X requirements."

Sorry lemme rephrase that, I currently own an Xbox One S back from 2016 not a Series S. I just wanted to know if I could use the existing HDMI cable I have plugged into my XOS currently. If I were to buy a Series X, could I still use that exisitng HDMI 2.0 cable on the Series X? I would like to play in 60hz don't care whether or not it's 1080p or 4K I just want to know if the HDMI 2.0 cable on my XOS will run on the XSX.

Updated Final:

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/getting-started-set-up/set-up-new-series-x-s

...The Xbox Series X console comes with a 2-meter Ultra High Speed HDMI cable that supports HDMI 2.1 features. This cable is required to support 4K gaming at 120Hz. Using a different HDMI cable may impact your video quality. Be sure to place your console within 2 meters of your TV so that this cable will reach. ..

That's the best answer you're going to get from MS Xbox.

IOW - You can use the HDMI 2.0, but need the HDMI 2.1 to get the best quality. One HDMI 2.1 cable is included in an XBox Series x. The XBox Series S's HMDI 2.0 will function on the Series X, but overall quality may suffer.

As long as its and HDMI 2.0 rated cable, you're fine - Yes, you can use it if that is what the Series X says it can or should use.

Those cable ratings are Industry Standard, so any HDMI 2.0 cable can be used with any device that needs or accepts any HDMI 2,0 rated cable.

Edit - Note:

A 2-meter (6.56 feet) HDMI 2.1 cable is included with all new purchases of the Xbox Series X. The Xbox Series S comes with an HDMI 2.0 cable of the same length.

So, it seems the 2.1 has much higher bandwidth capacity. Soo... That's an issue you may have to look at and I may be wrong as I do not know atm what is required for the 4k you want.

The Series X comes with an HDMI 2.1 cable, so you don't have to buy one. If you need one longer than the one it comes with, you "might" have to buy an HDMI 2.1 to get the resolution you want.

Did you come across something that said using the HDMI 2.0 would give you 4k, but at lower refresh rate when compared to an HDMI 2.1? Link?

I appreciate the answers thank you. My Xbox One S can upscale to 4k but I mainly just leave it at 1080p cause I can't really see a difference on my TV since I'm far away from it. And I do use an old LG OLED 4K B6 TV. Not to mention my HDMI cable is plugged directly into the wall to the TV. So that's what got me thinking if I can use my existing cable and use it on the Series X.

You should be able to use your existing HDMI 2.0 cable on the Series X. Your results for 4k may vary in quality, though. The Series X comes with an HDMI 2.1 cable. HDMI 2.1 cables are not expensive if you can't find the original that came with the Series X.

Be sure to follow the instructions for setting up 4k with the series X, provided in the link in my previous post.

Good luck!

one comes with a 2.1 hdmi eARC cable outlet, but the cords for both are 2.0 hdmi. Xbox owners should buy a 2.1 hdmi eARC if they have the model with the outlet. It mainly improves sound by allowing dolby atmos.
