Will you dodge the eventual WW3 draft?
With all this talk about wars around the world, I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that the powers that be will try to do something stupid, like bring back the draft to send young men into the meat grinder of whatever conflict will become the next forever war.

I'm personally thinking about fleeing to Canada once the draft letters come flying in, rather than getting shipped off to die in Israel, Ukraine, or Guyana. Besides, I'll be able to come back home once the war is over and the next head of state decides to pardon all the draft dodgers for votes à la Jimmy Carter.

If a draft were to happen in modern times, I have a feeling that the US government would vastly underestimate how much of Gen Z would rather be put in prison for refusing to comply than go to war.

Now a days?
There was mass draft dodging in the 1860s and the 1960s.

draft dodging always been about. culturally its acceptable in present day where as growing up for me it was not so much.

As always I will say this Blackadder goes Forth last episode sums a lot of things up.
Different people seemed to get very different messages from that episode. I don't know if at any point they said things would have been worse for themselves, their country, or any other country had they deserted/dodged.
Fun thread.
Will you shut up with ww3?

It’s crazy how WW3 has been happening the for the last four years, ever since that missile Trump fired at the start of 2020.

I hardly noticed it going on.

War could possibly break out between the powers again. How likely is it, I would say it's unlikely at the moment but you never know. A real war with russia / china could end up with nuclear missle's being thrown at each other and not only will the common man suffer but the elites and people in power will suffer also, so im guessing wise men in suit are trying not to start a world war but leaders will still need to show their balls and act tough as not to lose face.

Theres nothing fun about world war 3 or getting drafted. Imagine if they forced me to join the military and then... c c CUT MY HAIR!!! Pure unadulterated barbarism right here, folks! I'd rather die!!!

Yeah, it's easy to pretend you are tough on these forums, bet you are so badass buddy.

Stop projecting. You wouldn't say that to my face.

By your own admission you are mentally ill anyway,

Do you have a problem with that?

Funny how you cherry pick the things that I say and then decide by yourself what is true and what is not. The only things you know about me are what you have read on here, yet you think you know it all.

People like you are the only reason I might choose not to fight, you aren't worth saving.
Oh no, the edgy forum guy thinks I'm projecting and I wouldn't say it to his face! How am I gonna recover from that epic burn :steammocking:

You should show them your Steam profile, they would enlist you immediately when they see how much of a cool and badass guy you are based on your edgy Steam profile alone. Don't worry you'll be prepared thanks to your 300 hours in RDR2, I bet you learned how to shoot em real good in that.

And yeah I bet you are totally making up the mentally ill thing even though you wrote about how you have mental illness in great detail in a post that didn't at all have any indication it was a ♥♥♥♥ post. Or the fact that you say multiple times that you are mentally ill.

But damn...yeah, I'm so doomed because the guy who is probably too old to even join the military to begin with let alone be on the battlefield isn't gonna save me...how horrible :steamsad:

speaking in US context
Plenty of militias out there ready to do the work instead of the entitled, but if the latest generation really did dodge en mass whatever the outcome of the war the dodgers will be at a severe disadvantage when some of the serving come home and things are bit more 'survival of the rifleist' .

To me it shows how senseless that war was and many others.
It's cliche to say but it really does bring out the essence of humanity it has it all there.

Blackadder the professional career soldier finding himself with all his experience and training at a loss knowing he's just going to be sent running into a machine gun and artillery.
And his obvious want of self preservation.

Baldrick who asks the age old question, how did this war start?
Why does his pet have to die it didnt do anything to any of them.

lt George whose acting in that one scene where his realisation out of all his university friends he is the last of them alive rivals his acting in House (which I was a fan of too).

The worse part for me was Captain Darling, all through the series he is the character I'd love to hate being comfortable and smug at all the others on the front then that episode and pow he gets sent in. Really felt sorry for him despite my dislike of what his character was about all through the series.

The biggest problem with WW1 and WW2 and all the others is there is always far too much power on the few controlling the many.
It works if people can just get on with supporting themselves and have things to occupy the emotions and wants of the human and its unlimited needs.
But you get the most useless people with the resources and power to create havoc with the world.

A lot changed after WW1 and even more after WW2.
And now its just got all too silly again with different symptoms in some things and the same in others.

Nah, I will volunteer as I am a reservist anyway.
Then I will be the one who steps in as your instructor and can make men out of all the snowflakes who got drafted.

Dreams come true, lol.

But if you are using Blackadder to portray how dodging was less acceptable when you were younger then it's the opposite. It's more or less saying that they should have tried to get out one way or another as opposed to sencelessly dying, showing that in the late 80's it wasn't as unacceptable as you seem to think it was.
