I understand publishing games is going to be a focus for xbox now if they choose to go multiplat but devs under Microsoft always fall off big time and im not seeing a promising future for any of their purchases.
The best part about all this is it shook up the gaming industry, hopefully new studios will be formed from the massive talent exit from microsoft studios over the next decade.
Microsoft mismanaged so many studios even their forza factory is dying. FASA dead. Gears factory is dying. "the intiative" studio is struggling to get off the ground. Ensemble dead.
Halo factory is dying, Rare is now a joke. Lion head DEAD Press play DEAD. Bungie ran away and died ect ect.
The list will get bigger. Way bigger.
Halo died when bungie left
Rare is forced to keep Sea of Sleep as their newest title
I forgor what ensemble did that was important
Damn who knew doing nothing can do a bunch of something
In reality gamepass created a discount culture for hardcore fans.
ok so their old franchise dying like with japan studio from sony and than we will not get a new uncharted game or infamous game
yeah sony is ♥♥♥♥. but eh. Microsoft buying half the industry isnt gr8.
It's all our faults. We funded their shenanigans
In retrospect, it does seem kind of obvious that this was an entire thing based off of corporate greed. A new console, and it seemed like it had 2 major games going for it, and these two major games would not only keep this console (but the future ones) alive. And it's obviously shown when the og devs for Gears and Halo moved on, and when Microsoft made their own companies to continue their series, there was a huge gap of quality from the originals.
But back in 2001, it seemed like they cared. They made the most powerful console of the generation, got the rights to a new, innovative, FPS game (and its sequel will heavily popularize online gaming on consoles, especially matchmaking). Like look at Halo 2. The Xbox was only slightly outselling the GameCube (but was still getting its ass kicked by the PS2, best console of all time) and looking at the marketing pics for Halo 2, it seemed that it took over the world.
But this was all an attempt to get their feet in the gaming industry, as Halo 2 had to be incredibly rushed to meet Microsoft's sudden demand of a second game in a series that was supposed to have one.
And then there was the 360. Some call it the golden era. I think they forgot how many times they had to buy a 360 because of how much it red ringed, but at least halo 3 was good
